Took my son fishing on the Fury out of Dana Point. We left Friday 5/5 at 9pm and headed out to SCI. The Fury had 31 anglers and at least six crew members.
I woke at three to take my regularly timed piss. I notice we are just approaching the Island. Stayed up and tied fluro leaders on our rigs. The crew started making bait. Squid and flying fish and then Sea dogs.
Even with good bait the fishing was definitely slower than previous days. There were 4 other sport boats and seems they were having similar results.
I got one yellow tail about 15lbs, got a few hits but nothing else in the bag. My son got some bites but nothing made it to the boat.
The boat ride back was an adventure. The Captain and crew did a great job from the time we boarded till the time we were back at dock.
Final count: 1 white seabass, 24 yellowtail, 44 bonito, some miss fish. I saw some calicoes and released. Overall a good day on the water with my fishing partner. 20170506_110923.jpg 20170506_112739.jpg 20170506_110907.jpg

I was on the First String fishing next to you. The ride home was rough. I was happy to be on a 93ft boat with only 12 passengers. :)

Yea I was on the Tbird out there with you guys. The conditions made it super rough, we must have dragged our anchor more than 6 times. The ride back home was a little entertaining as well... Bummer that we had to leave a couple hours early, but at least we got there in the first place.

Good on ya for getting out there. Like they say - worst day fishing still beats out most anything else! Especially with your son in tow. Tighter Lines next time!
