Too cool. I remember longfin trips were so cheap
I went almost every weekend. An overnight $100.
    A 1.5 day about $125-150...2day $175-225 or so.
We all know everything went up from there 70's.

Not LR, but the other day in box, I found a Bait ticket for Balboa Pier in the 60's...good for a bag of Sardines...50 cents
Long before it became Ruby's=pier end.

My first 10 day day was on the spirit of adventure 7 years ago. It was $3800 and Limited to 18 guys. The only extra cost was permits. Beers were a $1 and Bubba was the chef and the funniest guy I’ve ever met, Dean as his assistant. What a great time

Have seen some interesting custom "tackle" boxes on the Excel. Cash, booze and cigars...sure there are some cards in there somewhere.

All the essentials for a long trip....LOL

No paper tags and staple guns back then. You would be given plastic circular colored tags about the size of a quarter with wire attached to mark your fish. You can see a few of those tags on the right side of that pic if you zoom in...

He actually has changed a lot. I did one trip with him and he was a pleasure to be around. I spent some time in the wheelhouse with him and heard many awesome stories. You could write a book about the casual conversations with him.

Sure, fishing prices have gone up. But in the mid 80s I bought a single family home in Orange county for $107K and was paying $300 per semester for Long Beach State.

Seems like a better system. I've seen those paper tags rip too many times. Who knew that paper and water aren't a good combo?

In state tuition at the University of Arizona is now $13,000 a year my first year there in 1966 was $147 a semester for as many units as you wanted....

You havent lived until you have been yelled at by that guy!
I refused to fish “that guy’s “ boat for years because of the way he yelled at a kid!!! In front of everyone at the docks. I could hear him clear down to the Point Loma office from his perch on the upper deck while he was “supervising” the unloading.

I like to look at the price per day of fishing. In 2005-2008 or so you could still get 10-12 day trips for $200- days 250/ day. Now The cost for a 16 day is now like $6k or more, So at least $350/day, but really you only get 8-9 days of fishing so it’s more like $700/day of fishing time. Some other trips now are $400-500/day. Then those trips out of PV look super reasonable. The only advantage is you can bring back more fish on a LR boat, but I don’t need THAT much. If you want a cow, a 3.5 Day trip in PV is way better now. Even a 3.5 day for bft is SoCal is usually better for cows. I liked the variety of those long trips, but I haven’t taken one in 3 years bc of the availability of the bft and the pv trips.

Hard to compare to real estate prices as you have to compare monthly payments and not house prices, and with cheaper financing (until this year), home prices sky rocketed.

I am probably in the minority but I actually enjoy the travel days on a long trip .....I love being on the open ocean with no cares in the world, no meetings, phone calls, a real opportunity to relax.....and I know that I will soon have the opportunity to battle world class fish with a world class crew on a fantastic boat.....yes it is expensive but compared to making more time money is easy......I have done the PV thing a number of times and prefer the Long Range experience.......JMO

It's a nice flashback. Costs are what they are you don't have to like it so get used to it or leave it. Last year I calculated I spent an average of $500 per day. This year I'm budgeting $550 per day. It's still cheaper per night than the bunny ranches near Vegas.

Hahaha....reminds me of my first year in college at University of Nevada at Reno.

Just outside of town was a freeway offramp called Mustang Ranch. Place had its own offramp!

    The joy of higher learning....

I’m right there with you. It gives me a chance to unwind from work/life and get into the right frame of mind to enjoy myself.

It usually takes 2 days for me to stop looking at my phone for emails from work

I was looking at houses in Carlsbad wanting to move back home when I retire. Probably going to need a new plan.

Sure do wish my parents would have kept the house we grew up in
