Found a couple of brochures from the 1994/1995 fishing season for the Excel and Qualifier 105 that were in surprisingly good condition.

Interesting to note the following....

In the nearly 30 years it looks like the cost of trips have doubled. I see 3 day trips in the summer of 1994 for $635.

Albacore only trips are mentioned.

Suggested gear is interesting. For 10 day trips a Penn 6/0 or a 600 Series Newell on a 5 1/2 foot rod is recommended for 80lb mono. Had to be tough back then...

Rods at 5 1/4 feet are recommended.

Fish processing was available back then while at sea on the Q105 at .30 cents per pound whole. Bottom right corner of last pic of Q105 brochure. HD Ziplock bag cost extra.

A lot sure has changed. Makes me wonder what a long range brochure would look like 20 years from now... not only in terms of costs but what the recommended gear would look like then....

I guess that's not too bad relative to inflation. Gas prices have more than quadrupled since then. I remember paying .99 a gal when I first started driving around that time. Home prices in my area are probably around 3X what they were. Median income, maybe not as comparable

If you factor in inflation, the price would be $1790 for a 4 day trip back in 1994. Its only a $310 difference from today's price. The price basically went up $10 a year for the past 30 years, which is nothing. I would call it a wash comparing the prices back then to today.

If you put that same $895 cost for a 4 day trip in 1994 into the S&P 500 index fund in 1994, you would have $13,325 today. You could go on 6 trips with the same money. If you bought Apple stocks with the money, you would have been able to buy the boat and fish anytime you want. Apple stock was around 29 cents back in 1994 and its around $159 today. That $895 invested would be worth close to $478,300 today.

    I wish I have a time machine.

I went on my first 10 day in ‘89 at 15 on the (then new) Spirit of Adventure. (mom was worried, dad was stoked! Ha) I saved lawn-mowing money for a year.

I went on a trip or two every year through college by saving side money and doing chores.

    Those were good times.

I remember doing a 10 day on the 105 in the eighties for $1,500. But $1,500 was a good chunk of change back then.

Interesting how the chartered trips have changed, too. Very different group of companies/sponsors/groups forking out the cash today compared to those listed in the 1994 brochure.
