So I had a buddy call this morning while he is suppose to be on a 3 1/2 day trip aboard the chief. He tells me they returned due to mechanical issue and they would only receive a voucher for the remaining 2 days they were to fish and then they only get a few YTs that sucks

I was on the trip and turning around was the smart (and only) move.
We were down about 100 miles when the boat started taking on water. The pumps were having a hard time keeping up with it (the deckhands actually got down in the bilges and started bucketing water).
Chris made the right call making a U turn towards home.
It sucks, but I would rather be here to write about it than floating around in the ocean in a life raft.
By the way, we did get nine bluefin, around 15 nicer grade dorado, and over 100 (rat) yellows - not a bad day on the water.
And just to correct your statement, Chris told everyone they would eat their galley tab and not charge anything to clean their fish either. And Joe (the owner) gave out vouchers for a free 3 1/2 day trip (not 2) whenever anyone wanted to come back and fish.
All in all, not a bad deal in my opinion - except it sure is a lot hotter here than out on the water!

That really sucks! How dare Chris save the friggin' boat from sinking, take a huge financial loss on the trip (not counting repair costs), let everyone eat and drink for free, then give everyone a voucher. Not to mention the crew probably got stiffed on tips. What's wrong with you, Chris?

Did any of the deckies state where they thought or actually isolated where the water was coming from?
    Mains, hull, hull fittings, etc...
    Just curious!

Chris Randel has been hit by multiple curve balls this season, trip after trip, mostly boat issues...
Hope they figure things out & keep it together, would suck to see another boat leave the fleet!

They tore the boat up looking for hours before Chris finally said enough. In the end, they couldn't find where the water was coming in from. I know when Jeff was down in the bilge of the boat, the water was up to his knees and rising.

And as far as tips - most of the guys where cool about what happened and took care of the crew.

I was only going off what my buddy said. I was not throwing the captain or the crew under the bus. I believe the cpt made the right call. I would rather come home on the oat then try to swim to shore.

Hang on!!! Good deal? Drove 7hrs.... Captain made the right call. Someone hit the bait receiver Hard, according to the engineer....
Chris fixed the plank that was starboard stern with epoxy. I watched this.
The cook then got in the bilge after the engineer gave up. The cook pulled wire nuts, black tape, some epoxy chunks and some some PVC fittings. I watched him. Once the cook cleared and Chris epoxied the plank the sump went dry and we wernt doing a wheelie.
Real bummer was that they dropped hundred of primo baits before fixing the problem. A bit of a rush to judgement?? We were way in the zone still.
Tried to check in and there was a problem and told to wait. We did. Noticed the list before we left and I spoke up. The brand new deckhand said he noticed it too. Chris tried to tell me it a because he was soo full or fuel! Wtf? It's a 90' boat! So its not safe in nautical weather when it has a full tank of fuel? That's a prob.
We got VERY square with the boat...
Has the landing called you yet??
Did you take the offer? Who's interest do they have in mind.
I will never go on that vessel again! If y

How could anyone complain about the boat coming back in. As far as I am concerned he saved your damn lives. The ocean is not a safe place when the slightest problem arises. I don't care if he took on 1000 gallons of water or 10 gallons of water. They found a problem, and the captain acted in the best interest of his passengers, crew and himself.

On my boat, if I noticed any water however slight, my head is stuffed down into the bilge. Water up to the deckies knees? My ass would be high tailing it in to port on the double, regardless of any bitching from anyone aboard!!!

I wonder how many people on the boat have ever made a decision as critical on the water. Stubborn, irresponsible, crybaby bitches!!! Did i leave anything out?

Sounds to me like they made it more than right, but it also sounds to me like this boat needs some work. I have a feeling a lot of these boats are having problems due to being cash strapped for the last 5 years and now it is really starting to show.
