Many of their posts on FB mention Mustad 7691. I'm assuming this means none of the Cows were sardine fish. That's a big hook and long shank. I'm only familiar with that hook for the dropper loop. Can any veterans chime in?

33 is a nice trip, but not close to a record. That has to be over 50 right? I've been on a 40+ trip and that wasn't near the record I was told. I think I was the only one that didn't get a cow on that trip, but did get 16 fish over 170 or so. By the 7th or 8th day in a row of catching big tuna, you do want a change... If you fish the live skipjack, you use the 7691 hooks and almost guarantee a big fish. However, this year, I caught a 25lb YFT on a live 5lb skipjack, so go figure. Breast hooking the skipjack will have them live longer (4 hours with one bait one time and then I let him go).

we had 52 on the Indy in 2012 . I believe the RP had over 60 on a trip . It looks like they caught big fish on manbait , chunks as well .

    The Record year was 2005...

The giants were on the inner banks... 10 day trips were able to fish them..

A trip run by Roy Rose on the Royal Polaris holds the record.. I don't know the exact number (someone chime in here ?). but, I think it was around 80 fish over the mark...

    How good was 2005 ?

Here are some boat reports from that year....

I sent out a 5lb skipjack, I got back a 25lb yft hooked in the mouth on a 7691 hook. Crew saw the whole thing. Maybe a shark ate part of it and the yft ate the rest? I don't know. Didn't catch any sharks otherwise, so I can't say for sure that is what happened.

Get over yourself already, you have no idea what he did with his fish and you didn't pay for his trip. That amount of fish is a drop in the bucket compared to what a seiner wraps. He may have donated it or given a bunch away to friends. I just got back from a trip and gave away about half what I brought back and it wasn't close to that

Your probably one of those kooks killing 10lb yellows and posing for pictures

Have caught 15" seabass and 12" in spotties on 8" sardines ..watched a 8 lb halibut eat a 13" mackerel so fast all you saw was a flash of scales ..
Caught many bass on baits that were more than half the length of their body...
No doubt a 25 lb yellowfin could grab and attempt to eat a 5 lber...
