I got three Calicos at once on the Sabiki. My son got a 37# and 25# YT's on the swim bait fishing for Calicos. He also got a small YT on the Alabama rig.

Let's call it your best surprise fish.

Over to you :)

Well it wasn't a fish but it sure as hell was a big surprise! Me and my buddy went to Irvine Reg. Park to do a little Bass and Cat fishing. While I was across the lake pitching a Senko for some bass my friend was soaking some bait ( Mackerel ) as well as fishing for lil bluegill not to far from our rods, I had brought my spike rod holder you put into the ground and he just propped his rod on his tackle box which had to be open for the rod to stand up right. As I moved down the bank, all I hear from across the lake is him yell Nooooooo, and start swearing like a sailor. All i could see was his tackle box and tackle was now in the lake. So i made my way back over to him to Help him fish out all of his stuff and see what had, he said while he was 15ft or so away he got a huge bight and his rod, along with his tackle box and everything in it went into the drink! He couldn't react quick enough to save the rod and possibly huge Catfish on the other end. So after we collected what we could out of the water, I switched up my Senko to a Booyah Jig and continued to fish but this time I stayed on the same side that he was fishing. We couldn't believe what had happened but basically wrote it off as a loss we kept telling each other " Dam I wonder how big that fish was" or " If only He brought a Rod holder too" to make a long story short, I made a cast towards the middle of the lake ( it's a small lake ) and started slowly hopping the jig I felt a strike, but didn't set the hook right away, as I slowly lifted my rod tip to see if I could feel anything, I did, but it wasn't a fish it was just a heavy lifeless weight on the end of the line as I kept reeling it in, i Thought to my self, then said out loud to my buddy " dude, what if i caught your rod and reel?" as it got closer my jig came up out of the water with some line on it. Right then and there I just knew it had to be his set up.Now this was about 2-3 hours after the incident but I set my rod down and grabbed the line then started to pull it in, and no shit his rod slowly came up from the depths! We both were in shock, it was one in a million chance for me to actually snag it in the first place but for me to snag the line and for it to stay on while I reeled it in was beyond us. So we both were super STOKED! That would have to be my most surprising catch HaHa Thanks for reading if you did Sorry it was kind of long.

I haven't had wild sturgeon in decades. I've forgotten what they taste like. :(
They have to taste better than the farmed ones, that have the consistency of window silicone.

Lake Piru fishing for bass from the beach. I was throwing a blade and got bit. fish splashes a few feet behind my blade and something feels funny

I somehow hooked the eye of a barrel swivel that had a 3 foot leader with a rainbow trout attached to the hook on the other end...

best part was I had 2 witnesses! the eye of the swivel was so small it barely fit over the barb of the hook.

My dad caught albacore while fishing commercial cods on the 70/90 bank with 15 hook gangions.

they were a commercial albacore boat out of SD and commercial cod boat out of Del Rey during the winter. I think they had 2 tons of albacore with only salted anchovies that trip.

I use to go down to cabo with my father and high rolling business boss( all free for me) They were big time bill fishermen(just not good fishermen) all I wanted to fish was tuna all they wanted was marlin.IN 1997 while fishing for marlin one day I spotted a big school of yellowfin, we slid in so I could catch dinner. As soon as I hooked up I said this is no tuna who wants it but none of them believed me. If you could see there faces when a 273# blue marlin went tail dancing on the surface. My father nor his fishing buddys are around anymore but they never did come close to betting that fish and for some reason they never would take me back down there with them. HAHAHAHA

Last year on the way home from Catalina decided to stop and try and catch a few reds at the 150. On the second drop with a rockfish rig tied on I got picked up by something about half way down. I wound in the slack and came tight, fought the fish for about 30 min on 20b test and up comes a 30b yellowtail. Will never forget that one. Sometimes its better to be lucky then good.
