While I get in plenty of days on rivers and streams, once a year my wife gives me a hall pass to load up the trailer with a buddy to basically fish and drink beer for a week. This year we targeted a ‘new to us’ area of Colorado.

The water ranged from classic meadow and valley conditions to super technical canyoneering style fishing. The fishing was a decent- as good as one could expect given low flows, and the scenery and eats were top notch (as the cook, I can say that…)

Plenty of nice browns, bows, and cutts came to hand. Interestingly, no brookies were caught, which is fine because they are a pestilence towards other species food sources.

The weather held up for us, which at 10,000’ altitude is never a guarantee. Almost warm days, chilly nights. Just a perfect for late summer.

It’s just nice to have multiple days with no obligations where you can spend ample time working a seam or pool. When you have the time to unlock the secrets, the rewards can be really good. This fella schooled me on my Sage TXL 1wt, which I fished about 90% of the trip- the other being an 11’ 3wt Euro

And, a few gratuitous food pics. If the long range guys can brag about their food, so can I..

The classic sammich.

Or, how about a ginger glazed yellowfin cooked over mesquite, with nori rice and Asian sautéed veggies?

And my wife need not have worried about me eating enough fruit and veggies. Mother Nature provided…

Wow! Killer scenery, cool fish photos and...

Amazing food. Which LR boat was this?

Looks like you and your bud just found a new favorite spot up in God's Country.
