Thirty some years of wanting to go and two years of preparation today I finally depart for Cabo to meet the Star and begin my big tuna adventure. I received a lot of good advise here and through others and I know Blake, Paul, Diego,Drew and Captain Tim will do there best to help, mentor and give me a hard time if I screw up.
When preparation meets opportunity, let's go.

Good luck. Hoping for good weather and better fishing for you. You know it's been tough for a few boats lately but that can change overnight. Fish hard, stay positive and good things will happen!

Good luck Pete. Have a great time out on the water. We will be cheering on land for you.... as your fellow anglers will be cheering right along with you on the Star.

Good luck, great ride. Tell the boys hello. Went to the show yesterday, spent quite a bit of time with Brian at the booth. Dropped a bundle to cover this May fly-down/fly-back, and deposit for next year. Then I spent time at Cal's booth, figuring what is needed for fishing the big BFT back east!

This should be a trip of a lifetime for you with only 14 guys on board.
I fished with this charter several years ago and had an awesome trip.
I caught the fish in my avatar with these guys.
    Good luck!
ps...if you want to fly the kite you have to ask, most of these guy are strictly bait fisherman

Took me 30 years to make it on my first LR trip too. Nothing else like it! Hope you have good weather and fishing. Will be looking for the report in two weeks.

I'm not going to do a big write up,just throw out some random thoughts.
The buffer zone started out promising but faded and sharks were a problem causing use to move to hurricane bank.
Hurricane bank started out promising, the first evening bite was good. We did have some wind and seas. The next day wind and seas came down but so did the current and sharks again became a problem.
The original XL Hooker Intruder was close to 2-1 versus 3 marauders. I got 8 wahoo. 1 bait, 3 bombs and 4 on the Intruder, biggest 50lbs.
Hooked one wahoo on his port side midship and drug him in sideways with three sharks following the whole way, they didn't get why the fish was going sideways and nosed it but didn't take a bite.
I got 6 tuna from 60 to a 202 on the kite. Lost at least that many to sharks.
Fishing small sardines on heavy gear with no current is tough.
    Captain and crew were great.
Food was really good, ate too much.
The group was outstanding, no issues what so ever.
I brought way to much gear, clothes and drink.
    Already thinking about next year.
