How about Penn Torque vs. Shimano Trinidad or Accurate Tern vs. Okuma Tesoro or Shimano Torium?
Should it be TORQUE vs. TALICA or TERN vs. FATHOM? As comparing Tern to Torque is like comparing an Orange to an Apple. Just my 2 cent.

“Somehow I got the feeling that the Turn was rushed into production without a lot of on the water testing. Just my 3 cents.”

So could this be the factor of all the issues now trickling out on Accurate TERN? I think time will tell.....Lets cross the bridge when we get there...For now we love the looks and feel of our Tern....its sweet! :-)...Hopefully will start abusing our Tern in just a matter of time :-)

I would take them in before your trip so you don't have problems on the trip.

since it’s bottoming out on you, it may not have been put back together properly? Be wise to just swing by and have em look at them.....

Sounds like the one Okuma I bought. The big high speed Convector. Couldn't produce enough drag to wind in a dodo!!!!!

These Tern's are nice lite weight reels.

Not enough for me to come off my Torques.

I'm sure Accurate will take care of any & all issues.
I am curious about the long term use & how that goes.
Same as I am with most new reels.

Maybe this will solve the problem...Get a black marking pen...put a black dot on your spool...tighten down the drag...pull. I've seen a few instances where the line is coming off the spool, but the spool isn't .moving. Why?...the spectra wasn't taped down.

I bought the 400x black and when I unboxed it there was a round semi circle where they missed the anodizing on the handle knob. Contacted accurate and they sent replacement knob on the spot. (sounds like the rush production you spoke about looks like quality control needs to be improved)
And I also bought the 300x in Black and took it out on a trip yesterday and it lasted exactly 2 casts until the free spool took a crap. Now it won't disengage. I've heard of people not liking that and a video was put out about it. I like accurate reels. But now I'm gonna have that in the back of my head if I ever hook up on one again. Lost my confidence in them.

I don't understand why someone buys a reel that doesn't perform as advertised and the first thing they do is post about the manufacturer being wrong. If I buy a reel that fails to perform as advertised the first thing I do is contact the manufacturer to try and rectify it. Also 30# of drag is way way more than what I would need on a reel like the Tern. Oh, and if the reel doesn't perform as advertised don't take it apart and try to fix it. That doesn't help the situation. Accurate makes quality stuff so give them a chance before claiming false advertisement.

First of all I'm not bagging on them. I've got a few that have performed great. I saw a post about them being rough engaging and disengaging. But I went ahead and purchased the reels anyways. Because I like accurate products and they explained in a video why it feels rough. And with that great warranty I wouldn't take it apart. I never said I did. I did contact them and I'm sure they'll do right. They're awesome. But if someone would of told me about a experience like the one I shared here I would of thought twice. And I agree I wouldn't use 30lbs of drag. I wasn't even able to fish it because the reel doesn't even go into free spool to cast. That was my point. And because of the negative experience with this reel I would have it in the back of my mind on the next fight. That's all I was saying because on the water it shouldn't be a question If a new reel will even keep casting the entire trip. A reel not going into free spool new is not me claiming false advertisement. That should be a basic function. And my experience with it. Is that not what we do here is share our experiences and look out for one another? Or should I feel bad about posting my experiences because I may insult someone's opinion about a company?

Was intended for the op. Didn't realize this thread was from February. Definitely a mechanical problem with your reel. I'm sure Accurate will take care of it.

If you are unhappy with your reels, you should bring them to our shop Monday through Friday between 8 and 5. I would be happy to take a look at them for you.

after reading this I took my turn 500 and tested it on my scale.
when i had the drag tight i got 22lb of drag. When i locked it down as hard as i could i got a full 30lb of drag before the line broke and i hit my self in the nuts with the reel.

We have tested these reels over and over and they will get the stated drag, no problem.
