It seems only yesterday that my cousin told me the weight of Green Lightning at Garibaldi!

Well here we are now and the bags are packed and final preparations are being made. Passports are packed and copies of same are packed in different places. Piles of T-Shirts from sponsors (some made up just for our team for this event) are pack and or distributed amoung the team for transport to Cabo. At 4:15 tomarrow morning, our transportation will arrive and we will be off to the airport. My daughter has been crossing off the days on a calendar by the front door. I noticed this afternoon that she no longer used a big X to cross off the day, but rather there is a big smily face there. Lists of restaurants you all have mentioned have been researched and printed off. In short we are ready to go.

I will be posting pictures as I get a chance. You can also follow the action as it is happening at the link below. My understanding is that they will be posting fish seen, hooked and leadered or lost. So good or bad you will know how we are doing.

http://www.igfaoffshorechampionship.com/

Again, I have to say thank you to everyone that has offered help and or gear. If I feel any pressure to win, it is mostly to represent you all in the best way we can.

Thank You!
David Putnam

PS: Did you guys know they make "make Up" bags? Can not believe how big they are!

PSS: For our Bloody Brothers we are going to try and do something special down in Cabo! If you remember the cake this will just be icing on that! We intend to set the bar high!:finger:

ok! We are here! I am sitting next to the pool and listening to the waves hitting the beach. They sound big. i ts very comfortable with temps in the lower 80's.

So we had some great fun at the airport. The whole group arrived around the same timne. We made it through the customs check and over to baggage with no problems. We wloaded up our gear on some dollys and headed out the door to our van driver holding the Just Keep FDishing sign. Thats when it all went sideways. They decided that they wanted to detain my middle daughter and check her bag again. The thing wazs her bag was already outside the security area with the van driver. So I got her bag and tried to take it back in. Well that was not happening. Well Nick the Stick and Iceman petrer were still inside the security area and were trying to help with the situatiuon. Well there were some words trhrown back and forth and they sent Peter out. They took my daughters passportr and told her to go find her bag. In the mean time they see Nick and were angry he was still there. Anyway they decide to check him again and find well what they would find in any hunters backpack. An empty 3006 brass and one live shell. Opps! The one guys takes him around the corner and quicklyt put
the live shell in his pocket and puts the empty back in the bag. Then they proceed to tear the bags apart looking for the live shell. Eventually they let him go. During this time my daughter also got her bag from me and was reinspected and given her passport back. So my conclusion is, we ran into a very friendly customs agent. I think having the team shirts on may have gotten us a pass on this one.

El Pescadore was great for dinner. The counrty flags are flying fro9m the balchonys. Lemonade is not lemonbade!! Opps! Thats nasty stuff!~ Not sure how you guys do it. Pics to follow!

Update:

"So what do fishermen from a tuna tournament catrch when fishing a marlin tournament? Yep, tuna. We put five 20+lb fish in the boat today on the big marlin lures we were trolling. We did have a marlin hit the spread within five minutes of putting it out but it didt stick. Towards the end of the day we headed north on the sea of cortez towards shore. With just minutes to go in fishing time we were surrounded by tailing and jumnping marlin. I was in the lower helm with my hand on the mike ready to call the hookup. Alas it did not come. So blanked on the marlin. Our largest tuna was just 22lb so no points there either. One team, the winners from laster year ended the day with 1000 points. Somebody got a sword today but I dont think it was them. Have the boats caught nothing so we did ok I guess. Three more days of this to go though. Tonys along the harbor did a great job of cooking the tuna also. "

"
We have control and today we used it to go back where we saw a bunch from yesterday. But when a boat has a trriple on marlin back in the fleet you go there. The thing is when you are fishing a tournament like this, there are rules some opf the captains just dont know about. Today was bad for this. We were constantly having to correct things the captain and mate were doing. Its just something they dont know about but frustrating. So as far as the two captains go the one on salsa was better because he understood the rules and worked within them. Also he understood english. Is that the problem though? No! There are teams here that only fish for marlin and have no caught anything. So that does make me feel better.

Two more days to go and we are going to change things up a bit tomarrow. I am taking the 5' trace off our leaders. I believe today showed that the marlin were leader shy. WSe have 150# and 200# 5' traces. Thats coming off tomarrow and we are going with 80#. Also, the bait situation is quite bad and both days we were short on bait. I cornered the tournament director this evening at Captain Tonys and told him about it. Tomarrow we will have some extra to make up for the shortage. That may help some. We are also going to have them trolluch slower than they have been with the ballyhoo. That helped some of the teams get on the board today.

Next time you are in Tonys look up and you will see a couple of shirts hanging there from us. We also got a sticker put up. Great party for the teams at Tonys tonight. Man I hurt from all the fish tacos I ate, that were finished off with several slices of pizza. Of course jumnping up on the table screaming might have been too much when they were stapling the shirts up. "

C'mon Dave, stay on those fish and when they come up on the jigs drop back your live cabillito fast - they will chew it. Also be relentless in the pipes, it will payoff in more shots at fish.

Also, good job on dropping down to 80#. You'll do it... Finish strong-

I am sorry my BD brothers for the absence. Thanks Todd for transferring the posts.

We pounded it each day hard and finally in the morning on day four we got one in. Had another come up into the spread but did not stick. Also had a dorado crash the spread but not stick.

Sorry for not keeping things up guys but I am a pussy and died each night after fishing. I managed to get one post out and again thanks to todd for the help there. I had a task for the crew during the week and they got it done. Marlin Mike you are going to like this. This time what happens in Cabo will be seen by you guys soon. More to follow on that when I get back and on the desk top and not this laptop.

Short answer now. Just got home.

Mexican team failed to call in 6 fish on day two or three. I forget right now. Anyway that put them out of the running. There were some very heated words between the tournament director and a couple of the mex team members. So much so that it looked like there was going to be a pitched battle. I cannot stress the seriousness of this. Anyway during the day while fishing is going on, death threats and so forth, the taking of passports and the like were bantered around. Well at the end of day four the Isla Marada team was on top. But as the story goes, the IGFA lawyers told their guys to do what it took to get their arsses out of there. The stress was obvious as the awards ceramony was getting started and word came around that the six fish were being given back to the Mex team. That put them in a tie with the Isla USA team. So as the third place team was called the crowd went wild and cheered even harder than they would have. Same for the second place team. Then they called the Mex team up and there was silence except for the goveners "armed" guards and "armed" navy guys all over the place. Not a clap from the other teams out there. Nor did we stand at all. It had to be extremely embarrassing for the mex team. The look on the govenors face was anger. Then they called the USA Isla Mirada team and the place went wild. We started chanting USA USA. I was screaming so loud and the Govenor turned around and looked right back at our group all decked out in our team shirts. We also had one of the Aussie teams there with us and between us we did not let the cheering die for an extended time. Got to love those Aussie guys! We also were yelling Aussie Aussie Aussie during this time because the Fisheries Minister did not mention them when speaking about the countries there.

We received a call to the room about an hour after this happened and it was someone asking when we were leaving the next day. For whatever reason my daughter answered not knowing the situation at the party and told them we were thinking of staying longer. We werent but I think it was a good thing. When I got back to the room and heard about this I went to the front desk and asked who had made this call. They had no record of a call to the room. Your guess is is as good as mine as to who made the call? There is no doubt the Govenor and the Mex team got the message and I dont think they were too happy about it.

But we got home with no tangles at the airport or when leaving the Hotel. Got to talk to the tournament director today in the lobby and he looked happy to be leaving also. I hope they had no trouble leaving. And I also hope the Mex Team will be... well I wont say what I hope for them!

Very long story and pics to follow in a couple of days.
