Leaving town but wanted to let you guys know that we made 1 last run to the Tanner on Wednesday . left Dana at 10pm Tuesday to make some squish at Catalina. We brought frozen just in case but never needed it. Made about 50 pieces by 1:30 ish by the Isthmus. Had to call it because we needed to be there by grey light. Pretty smooth ride to tanner Arrived at around 10 minutes after 4am. Bright moon was nice. Got to tanner and it was a cooooold mofo. Slight fog, looked like ra in but it was heavy drizzle. We were right next to a seiner finishing his wrap. drop lines in, about 430 one goes bendo. 2 minutes into fight it comes in buttoned. Grey light comes and goes now it's like 7 ish and my buddies rod is bent. 20 minutes later a nice 50lb bluefin hits the deck. Awesome! Then nothing for an hour so we reset drift again and notice a boat off in the distance hanging one. Looked to be about same size when they pulled it over the rail.

20 minutes into drift Bendo again.....another 50lb'er. Just before that fish was gaffed, another rod goes off. This one didn't want to stop. Unfortunately , my buddy had to tighten the drag down and broke him off due to about 50yds a line left. Damn.

Had to call it by 130pm because we needed to be back by 6pm. Pretty decent ride back, not bad at all. Beat the weather window.

Despite what FD reports, they are still there. we did see 1 fish caught and ours was landed mid morning . be patient, long drifts. They seemed to like 2 squid pinned together.

    Good luck 20161214_120220.jpg

    Wow, that is a fatty!

Way to show us all how it's done and to prove they are out there!

Were most fish on the bottom? Any good sonar marks? Doesn't sound like many other sport boats out there...

Congrats and thanks for the report!!

Cool. Wonder if the Oceanside95 ends up getting a full load for their 1.5 trip heading out tomorrow evening.
