Looking to get a Penn or Okuma 50 and get a Talica 50 as a big bluefin (100+) flatfall.....Got a great deal on the Talica... but I hear it won't make a good kite real.

I would be running this off my private boat. First year running a kite myself....

Any thoughts..... Is the Talica 50 overkill for a flat falll????

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated......

Too much downtime.... can't stop thinking of new gear!

Thanks!

I’d say the 50 is too big for a FF rig. What’s wrong with it as a kite reel on your boat?

That's my fear.... Maybe a 25 would be beter... I have a 16 and love it... many a 40-60 lber landded with it.

Line capacity? Would that be an issue for the 50? First year running the kite myself..... Do you really need the line capacity of a Penn 50?

I feel the same about the talica 50 but I have seen it prove itself over and over so I say you would be fine with it as a kite and even a heavy FF rig since you don't have to do anything special when FFing... I run a tiagra 50w as my kite because I thought the same, a 50 wont be big enough but after seeing a 370+lb YFT landed on the kite with a talica 50... It's plenty.
