That was the most interesting thing I have read in a long time, AMAZING!!! man those fish get around, crazy they dive at daytime, but that's when we catch them, should we get a gnarly glow spread and fish at night for them?

Blown away dude, thanks for the great post!

if anyone is interested in participating in this project please private message me. this is a project spearheaded by the South West Fisheries Science Center here in La Jolla.

We need the help of all recreational anglers fishing for albacore this year.

This tagging project is part of a larger study being done on the ecology of albacore and tuna off southern california. So far there are some other interesting facts we have learned about these crazy fish!

For example, why do the albacore seem to like smaller anchovies compared to larger sardine...

Well, its because most of the prey they eat are under 70 mm... or 7 cm... thats about 2.5 inches... small baits work because albacore like small prey...

And yes, they ffed down deeep a lot of the time... but why do they come up to the surface to bite a flylined dean? With your help maybe we will soon know...

I always thought they swam up the coast to the NW. I wondered why they are bigger in SD than in the NW. This puts a little light on that.

That was incredible ! I just wish we had some people on the East Coast with a clue. NOAA on the East coast needs to just stick to the weather. They have closed down everything that can be closed and we just don't see the rhym or reason. I am glad that you have a real fisheries program out West, we sure don't have anything close to one on the East Coast.
