I never caught one, but in the mid-1980's, the Daily Double used to do an all-night shark trip on summer weekends, and got one about 150 pounds amongst the sharks, probably at the 9 [can't recall exactly].
In the mid-90's the NorCal boat Wild Wave got one about 90 pounds fishing albacore out of Santa Cruz, on an anchovy and straight 20-pound.

No. Seen a few taking sun baths with 0 success. Never seen one hooked. Fishing out of SD then we ran south

Did a shark trip out of seaforth in the late 80s on a party boat. Night time departure. We rented gear with a glow stick and wire bait leader. Buddy caught a blue shark, this is 4th grade. He tried to preserve the jaws and his technique did not work. Was not fun and we should had tried for a swordfish. Never fished shark again

Would like to witness thier power. Its hard to fathom

I worked a few of the daily double shark trips back then. Jason Diamond liked the chum ground up through a garbage disposal and the owner liked it stomped on the deck

We did our commercial trips with the custom fitted garbage disposal over the bait tank. .
Putting fresh dead sardine through it would create a fat slick on the surface the makos seemed to love..

I remember those trips.
Never could figure out why anyone would want to do that. Back when we saw Blue Sharks on every trip.
I haven't seen a blue shark in years

Had a small one come up to the boat off Pt. Fermin last year.
Hooked him on 8lb test and a jig. Fun for a moment then a re-tie and new jig.

I remember someone hooking a striper on the Pronto when Harold Ellis ran it. Early 70's. The fish rammed the stern below the water line, breaking off his bill. It was cut flush with the hull and is probably still there.

Sold my Parker. You can find me on the Red Rooster.
Slightly off topic: Why are swordfish called "Elvis"?

I think this one was on one of the Oceanside boats last year
I believe there is a article about this on BD somewhere
It’s a good read
Bummer
The picture is too large to load
maybe some one knows what I am referring to and could post a link

I remember Ron on the happy Kanake getting quite a few but pretty sure he darted them hooked up to a 50 wide.
Yup, baiting em with the lily iron. Ron was a hell of a fisherman, he was always weighing them in at the Marlin club.
Always the same story ‘fish went ballistic! almost ripped off the flying gaff’
