It seems like there are some great star drags out there right now and especially for the lower price point.

The new Daiwa saltist looks good to compete with the Shimano torium and the okuma tesoro.

Now its time to decide what is going to be the better one for throwing surface irons. What do you guys think?

Edit: just realized I messed up the name. Can you tell im building a new surface iron combo

I have a new Fathom 25N star drag coming today. 142 shipped with the promo code at woodbury outfitters. Going on a Seeker 6480.

    United Composites.
If you like 9 footers try the US90 Monster or the CE900 Del Mar
If 10 footers, try US100 Monster or CE1000 Monster or CE1000 Del Mar
They have many so go pull on all of them to see what you like with what you want to throw jig wise...

Penn Fathom 25N and a Seeker Pinhead Ulua (9'3"). Best value combo out there.

No doubt the Fathom FTH25N gives the best "bang for the buck", but if the budget has a little more room, be sure to check out the Torque TRQ25N star drag. A great top of the line star drag, and an absolutely phenomenal surface iron reel with either the stock gears, or "geared down" if you prefer.

I’ve had the Trinidad 20a, torium 20hg, fathom 12, lexa 300 & 400 and the new daiwa saltist 35. Torium wasn’t my taste. To me it seemed like its not meant for casting irons, even after I cleaned out grease and put oil in the spool bearings. Trinidad and new saltist are both my favorite reels. Trinidad wins by a little, the overall frame is smaller and more lighter, the handle is better imo, I’m whatever about the new saltist Handle, but it’s growing on me. I’m starting to like it more than the Trinidad, it casts amazing. Just with daiwa would start making an actual power handle for once, not none of that but Eva or Winn grip ball nonsense.
