    Treble or large single hook?

Bought some light surface irons and they have a large single hook on them. Something tells me a treble would be better.

Thinking yellowtail would be hooked easier/better on the treble.

    Thoughts?

    The Trouble with Trebles baby.

Although I'd probably prefer single hooks if barracuda are biting. Damn I hate barracudas.

This might be total BS but I always felt like the added drag of a treble helps the action There’s that certain amount of resistance when you’re grinding that feels right and the jig is kicking like it should. You don’t need to see the jig to know it’s swimming good. Just me, I’m full of crap half the time, this could be one of them

It's not BS. I use Owner 2/0 trebles (when I can) otherwise stock trebles on 7x's, Jri 4's and 7's Tady 45's Baby 5x among others. I also wind surface iron way slower than most. Trying for an exaggerated kick while walking around spot casting birds, swirls, boils.

I too think the above pictured jigs are set up for wahoo fishing.

Now I need a place to get these swapped out. Anyone in OC do this on the side for cash? Don't mind putting a few bucks in someones pocket from BD.

I personally do not like free swinging single hooks on surface iron as I think it affects the way the jig kicks or swims.
All of the surface iron that I have tried with single hooks seem to swim straight as the single hooks act like a tail on a kite.
I like shorter 2/0 treble hooks on my surface iron as they let the jig swim or kick better.

In case Gary is busy or whatever reasons, give me shout, I can weld new rings for ya, just bring your own treble hooks.

Gary, a little bit off topic, but can you repaint and rehook fixed single hook jigs?
