So.... I was laughing the other day when a fishing friend of mine told me about a recent LR trip.... and his bunk mates fishing "Superstitions". Got me to thinking about ALL the STRANGE things we do as anglers... for luck or superstition. Here let me give you a few well know examples....

    "NO BANANAS".... lol.

Or how about this one.... "its your FIRST TUNA?? Got to eat the heart"...

Or how about the "toast" ... pouring a portion of fine whiskey off the stern.... to honor someone.

What about biting the head off a sardine.... for good luck?

Anyways.... to finish my fishing buddies story... his bunk mate.... (good fisherman) insisted on keeping his 10 Trip "Lucky Boots" in the stateroom when he wasn't on deck. Holy crap my buddies said. Rotten bait would have smelt better.... he stated with that look on his face. ....lol.

So... my BD Brothers..... are you Superstitious? Do you have a "ritual" you do before or during every trip? Is there clothing.... you have to be wearing to NAIL that Big Fish? Do you share your liquor with Nemo to honor someone? Whats the funniest thing you've seen or done... for GOOD LUCK? Let us know.... we ALL do something.....right?

For sure that's half the fun :D

Never ever in my opinion. Throw cig butts into the ocean. Roll the cherry out and put the butt in a pocket or trash can. Or your fucked risk increases by allot

Juju. Lucky fishing clothes for sure. Spilt Clipperton first blood on my lucky guy harvey tuna shirt. I like white shirts for tunafishing LOL Resulted in a 43.2 LB San Diego Albacore

NO BANANAS is a joke. In the days of sail coastal banana boats, Black Widow, other Spiders lurked in the holds of bananas, often biting crew as they slept, worked the deck. Old stuff.

We got 350 Albacore in 1hr, on Pac Star, filled 2 holds and the slammer and done at the Dumper. After I pulled out 2 bananas out my backpack for my boss and I..YUM YUM. LOL
Said WHAT? a dozen times to others going in for a cold beer LOL ..............Tuna don't care. LOL

When the fishing is slow, I purposely do something that would make a bite inconvenient. That's usually lunch or snack time.

Yeah..... you know me.... I love to troll.... anyways I have a friend that "taunts" his target fish.... by writing with a Sharpie on his lures. Will not throw trolling or surface lures without some fish "encouragement" writing on them!

Another friend... pretty well know marlin angler... who owned....and NAMED all 300 of his marlin lures. He made it fun.... calling them out by name while we would get hooked up. He would log them that way as well. All of us Reading that log a few years later.... would leave you laughing so hard you'd cry. Strange habits for sure....

The banana thing is fucking stupid...I've watched guys giving total strangers shit for eating a banana on deck. Absolutely fucking RETARDED the manners some people have towards others...
YEP total bullshit....here's the 1st stop on a Condor 3 day in May one time...with a fruit bowl and bananas in the galley. Had to stop 3 times to tag the bleed bag fish into the holds LOL Bloody Decks! ATE a banana too! LOL

Every single trip I go on I have to have chocolate milk and crumb doughnuts 🍩. I don’t remember when I started it but it’s a must when gassing and icing up now. Pretty sure it was a one time thing and we murdered that day and it just stuck.

    Bad urban legend

Anyone who has ever had a (hamstring cramp) that locks into a tiny hard ball. And feels like a gnarly bruise for 1 week. Loves the bananas

First thing I do. Is eat a banana in the morning of heavy fishing. And I don't eat allot of bananas
    YEP=POTASSIUM FIGHTS CRAMPS=BANANA
KEEPS ME ON DECK SINCE 1960 LOL
