Got the boat ready to go Saturday so headed out the banks Sunday morning. Not long after we reached the knuckles (or is it nickels??) we see an Ono about 30 feet behind us shoot straight up like a missile, 15 feet into the air (saw them jump before but never like that!!), then bam, bam, bam, bam!!! Ended up with two destroyed lures, one completely missing, and one solid hook up. Get him into the boat and go back around but guess they moved on. Get two mahis and a kawakawa headed towards crazy corner, then my engine dies. Turns out my fuel line between fuel/water separator and engine started leaking. I knew I needed to change it but thought it would last till I had more time. damn!! Wrapped the area with duct tape and clamped it down with a hose clamp I stole from my bait pump line. still wouldn't start so I bleed the injectors, preyed, then we got it to start. This was about 10am but we decided we did well enough for the day and best not to push our luck so headed home. On the way back we picked up an oioi and a small marlin. Except for the fact we broke down and put a little bit of chocolate stains in our bebs while trying to get the motor to start, I think we had a pretty good day.

    Robert and crew,
Good goin' on the fish, glad you were able to figure out the fuel issue. That's what shake down cruises are for (figuring it out before crunch time, crunch time defined as: the craziness of summer)...

    Cheers
    Pat

Sounds like you avoided a nightmare but not the fish. Good going.
