An standard width HX 5/2 can do a whole lot of everything on a trip like that. Very good double duty 50lb yoyo / bait reel. I used a buddy's HXJ raptor and 800xh and loved the way it fished, but you have more options with the normal width reel.
I have been on a bunch of 6, 7 and 8 day trips the past few years. I always bring several jx and lx 2 speeds for 40 lb, a regular hx 5/2 for 50 lb. and a shimano tiagra 30 in case the bigger fish show up. I have ended up using a jx or lx about 80 to 90% of the time for bait fishing. The jx's and lx's with 40 lb seem to get bit better than the hx with 50 lb. I like to have at least two or even three 40 lb outfits in case one or two get messed up during a hot bite.
For every man in the world there is a fish that will hand you yours many times over. You just haven't met her yet and when you (hopefully) do, you will be thankful for your uber low granny gear young man.
Been on a number of 7-8 day trips. I bring a couple MX 2 speeds. One rig set up for fly lining with 65 lb spectra with 20ft of 40lb mono topshot ending with an 30lb 8 ft fluorocarbon leader for yellowtail and dorado (usually don't get bigger then 40 lbs). The other for casting iron similar setup but use 120 ft on mono as a topshot. Also bring a couple LX 2 speeds set up similarly but with 80lb spectra/60 lb mono and 60 lb floor for YFT and BFT. And a HX raptor just in case I have a premonition a fatty is in the area.
