I want something for flylining sardines for schoolie YT and YFT. Will sport a single speed lever or star drag reel like the MXL MC or Diawa 30/ 40 SHA's I have or the Fathom 15 I might buy or ... Open to suggestions. I want a faster action than Seeker Black Steel or UC RCE but I do like the weight of the RCE. Phenix? UC CP? (weight) Or cheapo Turners California Special? Not really price sensitive on this I just want the right rod. I need 7' for a reason, have 7/6 and 8 footers already. LOVE my Proteus rods but they are too long, if they made them in 7' I'd be done. .

I had a calstar 870wc that I used as my 30. Easy to throw a bait, but sold it for a 800m. Sold the 800m(regret selling it) and now have a phenix psw700h for my 30/40, wish I had an 8fter.

    Reels used for 30#
    Squall 25n
    Saltist bg30
    fathom 25n
    fathom 25n 2 speed

    Hope this helps

I’ve been using an OC Rods Kaiuli 7mhf for 30# that’s light and fast action. I don’t think they have that model anymore. The current model is the Kaiuli 7xhf which is lighter and slower/more parabolic... more of a jigging rod and not really a 30# bait rod. How about a Phenix psw700h for a light, fast 30# rod with 8-10# of drag?. I use a Phenix psw760h for 30# with an Accurate DX2-400. I’m picking up a UC Tilefish Jr at the FHS for 30# with an Avet SX Raptor for 30#. Not sure if it’s as light as you’re looking for but it’s fast with plenty of power but it’s 7 1/2’.

Bad personal experience with Shimano rods. REELS yes, RODS... never again. Had a Tallus snap in half simply hung up on kelp with about 9lbs drag on the reel. A fluke, clearly defective. Shimano? "Not our problem." Once burned twice shy and all that. Look at my user name, I am huge Shimano fan... but again for their reels, not their rods.

Looking at Phenix HAX 720 MH 20-40 Fast. 7'-2" I can deal with but dead on 7 would be better, I want it to fit into a rod tube I built into my camper. Anyone know what the action is like on a Super Seeker 6470-7 ? Website doesn't say.

I like Calstar BTG 870 as a 7' rod for 25/30 pound line.
    The BTG 270 8 H is a great 8' rod for 25/30 pound.

As luck would have it my buddy Dan had some extra UC CE700M blanks he never had built so I'm going with that. Any recommendations for a builder?

    Rainshadow RCLB 70M is a solid 7' 30lb stick.

I feel like the action on mine is pretty fast. I could probably orchestrate taking a picture of it bending if I can get the boss to cooperate.

G Loomis pelagic 7’ 25-40. Best 7’ 30lb stick with a fast taper I can think of, it’s damn light weight too.
