I heard that Evinrude closed their doors?
I heard that they signed a deal with mercury.Basically the same motors but re branded. Im not sure though. They still supply all parts though so im going to keep running them.

damn, he called me right back, had quotes in my inbox in 45 minutes. Smitty FTW. would you all do twiin 250's or 300's on a 300-600hp rated hull? any advantage to going with 250's here?

I would go with the 300's, the weight the same as the 250's. Then you have the extra push when you need it.

Both brands are good motors in my opinion. Both brands also have that lucky lemon that brings out the hate.

I have a Suzuki with over 900 hours and it's never been tuned at the shop. Still performs like it's new. I stay on track with the maintenance schedule using only OEM parts and fluids. Also use Seastar fuel stabilizer and only 91 octane fuel.

If the motor is built right and the maintenance is kept up and boat gets used regularly and not abused, these will run for thousands of hours. Nothing last for ever but you can do your best to extend its life by upkeep and regular use.

If i were to replace my motor, I would lean toward another Suzuki. Suzuki has a timing chain that is supposedly maintenance free. Yamaha has a belt but no biggie, just a extra item to service. Cost for parts are comparable between the two brands.

looks like most vendors are 4-8 weeks out with suzuki orders and some yamahas are almost 9 months out! i am leaning towards yamaha as i have a set on hold with a deposit right now. smitty's estimate came in about $6500 under a very well priced set of yamahas installed. however, it could be a 2 month wait until they come in

Then fish what you have for 2 months then upgrade in the off season at the better price.

All boating stuff is affected by COVid. 3000 hours on a 2003 f225. I think she's good for another 2000 as long as I don't do something stupid. I have a friend with twin 200 zukes.. He maintains them himself as there are not too many shops in san diego.

So final pricing on best quotes I've received so far are (I've received almost a dozen by now):

Suzuki df300 twins - $49,697.11 rigged/installed w/6yr warranty - this is at JP Motorsports (dealer is 2 hrs away and not a viable option for maintenance. local dealers priced me out equal to yamahas but there are sufficient local suzuki dealers)
Yamaha F300 twins - $56,709.86 rigged/intstalled w/3yr warranty - this is from Boat Specialists in Ventura (dealer is about 1hr away but can pick up the boat from slip for service if needed and there are more than ample local Yamaha dealers)

yamahas are in stock and on hold while the Suzuki’s are 4-8 weeks out (best guess)

Any reason you didn’t consider the new Mercury? I have a neighbor who swapped an yammie 300 for the new Mercury and absolutely loves it. Says performance across the range is hugely improved with the Mercury.

I bet it’s outboard specialties in pompano. Suzuki’s are awesome. Great engines. Enjoy. By the way, I just purchase two scratch and dent 150’s from inflatable specialties in Ventura. It worked out pretty well. I just picked them up and installed myself. Good deals up there and near Florida prices.
