All I know is when I catch yellowfin in USA waters I’m averaging $30 a pound after gas, tackle, bait etc.... that’s a lot of revenue for the state.

No response from CCA yet again...what a surprise.
According to their Website, CCA's first objective is to be an
    • Advocate for recreational saltwater anglers

It's very discouraging to see that this "recreational advocacy group" apparently does not care enough about the issue to even take a position on it. Maybe there are other organizations who will listen but I will not support CCA in the future.

Or maybe there are issues that need addressing that are a better use of limited resources than a small seasonal tuna fishery.

That probably has no chance of success with the deeper pockets and better organization of the commercials.

Can you name any of these other issues that CCA has been successful fighting for ?

I think failing to support CCA because they have not taken a stance on the local SoCal purse seiners is short sighted at best.

In Ca? As Jerdog points out they worked at keeping longlines out of the EEZ. Also worked at the elimination of drift nets and also worked to stop AB 2787 AKA the lead ban bill.

If you look at CCA nationalally they worked to get the modern fish act passed, worked to revamp the red snapper management, a ton of habitat work etc etc.

CCA chapters have done some great things mostly through the effort of volunteers. Its pretty clear to me that the organizational framework does create the opportunity to get things done. If CCA fails in Ca it won't be because "they" failed.. It will be because "we" failed - you and me.

Is there a better option Jim?

I have seen every organization that has been active here in the golden state in the last 50 years. Most come and go. Some got some things accomplished but many did not.

Looking at the backing of so many from the fishing industry are giving CCA/Cal IMO CCA has been our best shot at getting a long term fishing organization here - and long term is what it will take to insure the future of sportfishing is a good one.

Standard way for albacore was depth charges. Keep that on the down low.

I get the whole limited resources part but they will not even TALK about the issue nor indicate whether they Oppose or are in favor of purse seining our local Tuna.

How can you NOT address one of the biggest problems Socal anglers have had to put up with for decades in any serious way???
