We had a private charter with 3 passengers over the weekend and over to Catalina Island we went. I got a new camera 20 minutes prior to departure and had no idea how to use it, so I just snapped away at a bunch of pictures from our day trying to learn it.

Anywho, I am always interested in new gear when it comes out. Im still very impressed by Shimanos new Trinidad A series reels. I recently bought a Trinidad 12 to add to my arsenal. Its super light weight, and feels really good in my hand. I loaded it up with 200 yds of 65lb spectra and 25 yds of 25lb.....
I also got to try out Shimanos new Terez designed for souther california style fishing fly lining dines or squid on a slider.

The rods so far are super light....weighs in at 11 ounces. I didnt catch anything big on it, but so far I like it.

Fishing was on the slow slide, but as we saw some good conditions near the kelp line, we opted for our chance at seabass. We used the traditional rig we have been using which is a 6/0 Owner Aki Twist hook with about a 3/8 egg sinker with the fresh dead squid. For our efforts, we were rewarded with 4 White seabass with 3 of them being cookie cutter schoolies at around 32-33 inches and 1 nice halibut to go with it. Squid again was easy to make. Still always a nice day at Catalina Island.

That looks like "E Fish" to me in those pics. Billy, i know the economy is bad these days but i guess you'll let just about anyone on your decks these days! He's snuck onto my little skiff before too.

    Thanks Billy
We had a great time fishing the Spectra!!!!! Super clean ride and a nice crew. They were able to make a ton of squid and we picked up some nice fin bait before we left the harbor. Lots of calicos caught on both fin and squid. Like Billy said the light weight, almost fly line seemed to get bit the best. Come to think of it I don't know if anything was caught on the dropper loop. Seabass came in the late afternoon after we found a good looking milk line off one of the beaches. Saw a few free swimmers around the boat but all about the same size. I spent a lot of my day throwing the new wax wing bait. Man are they fun to play with!!! Throw those suckers places you would have never been able to put a iron. Rod tip pointed at the bait and reel, they swim like a perfect swimming iron. I've caught calico, bonito, mackerel, white fish and barracuda on them. Can't wait for the first yellow on one, or White Sea Bass. That will be fun stuff.
Too many positive things to say about the Spectra and it's crew, if I listed them all you would think it was a commercial. It's for sure a boat I can't wait to get back out on. Saw some pictures of some MONSTER rock fish and lings that I can't wait to go pull on.
    Thanks again guys

    Sean,

Thanks again. We just fish hard and our efforts show for it. The reports are only going to get better from here as I plan to implement more videos.

One day, instead of seeing you on your boat, how bout you come on mine and relax with us, charter seabass isnt that bad ;) Its not about what you catch; its about what you learn. See you soon!
