Brad at Half Moon Marina on Shelter Island had a guest slip for two nights and my son and family live in Santee so off I go for the "start of summer". lol
I've got a 2WD Tacoma so thanks to Wayne at West Coast Trailers. The tow from the valley to SD and back went smooth as silk or as smooth as the 405 allows. Props to Eckart as well for the 9" extension. Thing weighs a ton but the solo launch and retrieve was as smooth as a noobie could make it (Fenders out BEFORE you hit the dock next time!). I blame it on being tired after two nights aboard and a solo Monday. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Thanks to all the Shelter Island guys as well. Made this FNG fell right at home.
Water temp was 59 off of 5 tanks but it wouldn't have mattered. We had a half scoop of bait from the barge on the way out (I think small sardines) but it was hard to focus on fishing when 22 month old grandson is on board. But he had his Paw Patrol stick and was gonna be fishing with his dad. lol
A little help on fish ID would be appreciated. We called it a rock fish for the boy.
These guys got up close and scored a big one. Congrats.
The high point of the trip was the dolphin were running in big numbers. Hope the video comes out. I'm tech challenged

Help a noob out? Should I be trolling along with a diving lure???
Anyway, we all know the weather turned and summer was postponed for a while. Cold Sunday family cruise in SD bay past the Midway …
… and solo fishing Monday (LA boyz ALL bailed. I will remember … rofl).
Noob mistake #... cost me the use of the bait tank for the rest of the weekend. Left over sardines will NOT go down the drain without plugging. I'll be working on that this weekend.
Frozen squid got some nibbles back out at the Point on Monday but it was TOO much fun outside so I came in and tried the shallows.
Note to self: solo shallow fishing and running boat is not a good idea. ps shoals mean SHOALS!!!. Just a little scrape.
All in all, a safe trip, good boat extended sea trial and time with the kids. Priceless.
Wishing everyone smooth seas and tight lines … and some warm weather.
