Islands SQUIDTREX VS WHITEFISH

Good Day All:
We fished the New Hustler out of Hooks Landing Oxnard CA. last Saturday. Fishing was tough but if you put in the time you caught plus size reds and chuckleheads. The bonus was a 6 plus pound White fish caught on 150gram Squidtrex in 80 feet of water by Santa Rosa. We were all surprised how big the whitefish was and that it hit the Squidtrex. I caught several jumbo Reds on the lure, but this is a first for us. Cheers

That's a hog whitefish! I wonder what the world record is for them? I don't think I've seen one that big

6# is a nice White fish. Record is 13#. The big ones I’ve caught have all been on long range trips.

Cortez Bank they seem to get as big as dorado. No surprise on the Nomad catch, they absolutely love squid.

They look more like small yellowtail and fight hard too

bigger ones it's easy enough to cut them out but small ones not as much

My buddy got a ten at Cortez bank. We thought it was a yellow and when it came up we were all blown away. They get thick out there.

Bottom Yellowtail, a long time ago I was on a charter on the Coroloma and a guy had to handline a big one in after it bent the spool shaft on his Penn surfmaster. There are still a few big ones out in the Channel Islands.
