My mother in law passed away in December and wished her ashes be spread at sea. Anyone know of a reputable service in San Diego. Will be about 10 - 12 ppl in attendance, looking at mid to late June.

We used a 1/2 day boat for our son. They usually come in early enough so you can get out late afternoon. You might check the landings to see. It’s a great way for a send off. Just the opposite to tuna fishing… wind to your back.

I chartered a boat for my dad up in the Channel Islands, you could call the landings and find out if they have any smaller boats available for charter.

I can only take seven but spread loved ones ashes on my boat three different times, a few years back reached out here on the forum and found a guy in Pedro to take a party of 10 for a very fair price. Sorry for your loss n may you celebrate her life tell stories and laugh/cry while you’re out there on the big blue🤙

One suggestion: Ensure the bow is directly into the wind and select the best stern spot to direct the ashes away from you and the swimstep.. Blowback can be an issue due to wind creating a vacuum. Sometimes, planning these things is a learn as you go situation. Best wishes for you and your family in this time of grief.

The wind in the face is not an issue for me, of course Ive been fishing long enough, twenty five years I’m in SD farting around so I know that portion, looking for a licensed captain that can enforce rules regarding who is and who is not allowe’d on the boat. Unfortunately will expect family drama with a spouse who the person who died would not want on the boat but the spouse attending will think they are allowed If that makes sense. Just need a captain that purely goes by manifest only and if your not listed not alllowed to board the vessel, fucking sucks to be in this position but have to respect wishes

The wind direction is to keep the ash from blowing back in your face. I’m sorry you’ve been put in the position of charter master. Hope you find an amiable solutions to honor your family’s request. Family drama can be very challenging, no easy way to do this.
You’re probably going to have to do something like issue boarding passes and hand them out. This way only X people can board leaving the captain to do his job. Good luck

Split the ashes. Give a container of ashes to the "unwelcome" person so she can perform her own ceremony. Let her know before hand that she is not welcome to join and please do not show up. A boat is no place to have a fight.

Sorry for your loss, a passing in the family is a tough one. Everybody reacts to grief differently at different times. Good luck with this, and I hope there is a good solution to remove the drama from the ceremony.
