Cat Harbor is a good place to try. Also, MDR harbor.

Nope been fishing catalina for 25 years and never caught or seen one - but fishklr has so what do I know

I catch them all the time land side, just never seen one in Catalina. Was curious if others had. Caught plenty of calico all over the island, but never a sandbass or spotty.

Yes, there are spotties in Cat harbor. I've caught several of them. Truth.

There are also bonefish way up shallow in the lagoon. This is a flat out fabrication, for entertainment purposes only!

For all you big game hunters, buffalo also frequent the path from Cat Harbor to Isthmus Harbor. Check by the porta-potties during the dry season! Partial truth. Yes, they are there, No, you can't hunt them. Yes, I am friggin' bored today.

In the late 80's... 86, 87. 88... who know when, My buddies and I caught quite a few spotted bay bass while catching bait (small macs) off the coast on San Jose Del Cabo. We were on a high spot just off Zippers and The Rock (surf spots in San Jose). We were fishing " Luck Joe" rigs... that was back in the day, before they were called Sabiki rigs.

I grew up fishing Newport Harbor. I know what a spotted bay bass when I see one. They were not small Cabrilla, they were bay bass.

I was blown away then and still have questions.

Sorry no pics - I know they looked like hybrids, one especially so. I did not take DNA samples and have them tested so I'm not 100% sure...
