Hi Steve. Looking forward to this 3 day trip next month. I fished with you on the Searcher trip in May and you mentioned that it may be a good idea to request specific gear to demo? Is that still the case?

True that I don't bring as many demo rigs for a 3-day as I do for the longer excursions.
Send me a PM about a week before the trip with what you would like to use.

I got lucky and picked up a spot from Coastalwerks. How many setups you recommend on this trip?

You never know for sure what the offshore bite will be from day to day.
The wise offshore angler will plan to bring all of the "5 essential rigs" [see that thread on this forum].

A Minimum of a 20-30lb, 40lb, 50-60lb and a 80-100lb. These are essential for a 3 day with the size of fish that you will be fishing. Don't forget 6-20oz torpedo sinkers, rubber bands, some 250-300 gram flat falls (glow in the dark) a couple knife jigs and a assortment of #4-4/0 hooks, Make sure the hooks for heavier line are super mutu's, and some flurocarbon 30-100lb test.

For the past two years, this trip has experienced "limit style" action on yellowfin tuna, with some bluefin mixed in.
Mostly school-size fish from 15-40 pounds, but often very finicky, so be sure to have a good-quality "finesse" combo with a 20-pound test topshot [not 25!] if the fish return to that mood.
In particular, be sure that your topshot is FRESH!

Nice bluefin on the Searcher using "finesse" gear.

    I plan on bringing a 15XNLD for 20#, TAC10II 25# bait, 25NLD 40# for surface iron/coltsniper, 40NLD 60# heavy iron, TAC16II 40-60# bait/sinker rig and Mak16II for 80-100# sinker/heavy jigs.
