Yesterday afternoon the ocean looked much better than it has been since the last storm. The 8 second interval swell at 3 ft, from two directions was finally subsiding.

Today the swell was nonexistent. Water visibility, about 6 feet, blueish/green, temperature between 56-58 degrees, colder than a week and a half ago.

Launched at 8am and there was a light offshore breeze. First drop off the pipe produced a 3 lb Barred Bass. Then . . . the breeze immediately stopped. Flat calm waters with a current going out to sea the rest of the day. A 1 oz. lead head took about 120 yards of line to hit the structure in 53 ft of water and needed to be thumbed to maintain contact with the bottom. It was frustrating trying to figure out what to do. Bites were there and so were the weeds and rocks. Nothing worse than having a current you have not seen, Bass biting (nibbling) pretty much just being aggressive and territorial, the way Bass do when they are filled up. "Spiteful". I hooked up a nice Fatty that came loose right before I was ready to leave. So that kept me out for another hour and a half for a slow pick. All the fish I caught before that were released. After that, I kept 2 out of spite that I am going to share with Bolan tonight for dinner.

Just to be "spiteful", I kept these fish for a meal

Overall, it was a good day, 4 Calicos and 7 Barred bass. Glad I was able to get out before the rain tomorrow. Hopefully Saturday will be gentle enough for the first day of the Rockfish open. Good luck gents . . .

Nice report. Thanks.

Whats up with Bolan? On Vacation waiting for you to bring the fish home instead of pulling her own weight in the boat?

    Is that a drone shot?

You are correct, that is a shot of Salt Creek from Surfline.com.

I love this website as a fisherman. They have cameras all over the place. Tide, swells and direction, as well as wind forecasts. My most valuable tool. I highly recommend it if you go out a lot.

This is Wednesday evening shot and below is the forecast.

Man, Those were nice marks on your meter!
Too bad the current was a problem.
    Some nice bass!
Is that a fairly new mercury?
I have a 115 Merc with some years on it, should probably replace it fairly soon?
