Hi I was wondering if any one uses one of these line winders/ spooler.
I don't have 1500 to buy a line winder. I currently have 7 reels that need to be spooled from penn fathom 10 to visx 20. I live in B.F.E. so it sucks to drive an hour plus to drop off reels and a hour plus to go pick them up. I already have all the braid and mono. Plus would like to be able to unspool reels at end of session.

I have this, but just the portion that holds the reel. I added the line spooler similar to the Penn one. I use a drill to turn the reel handle. Honestly wish I had something with a foot pedal. Might have a better system if you use the Sato line winder system. That has a foot pedal attachment.

Do like the part you have? Quality built?
I have a foot pedal I can use with a drill.

I don't know the brand you mentioned, but I'm cheap too, so here's what I did:

I started with a SATO line-winder. they're not super common, but every now and then you can find a used one for pretty darn cheap. way less than $370.

my seller threw in his old power drill, but many of us already have nicer large-chuck power drills.

KEY MOD #1- we replaced the previous mini sheet of plywood for a much larger base. rubber pads added for quiet and stability. all the SATO parts were applied, in roughly the same general pattern, but over a much larger area. this has made it so much nicer to use!

KEY MOD #2- we used a bunch of tinkering mods to make better, more adjustable, and more consistent drag on the line spool. personally, I think this part is the best place to invest your dollars. there's a NZ company that makes a killer drag setup, I think it's called "bees knees" or something...? even more rare to find these used, but I've seen it a couple times.

KEY MOD $3- we added a line counter. SO NICE for marking your lines for nighttime jigging!

Finally, we set up a huge pulley so the line goes from spool, to pulley, into the reels at the appropriate height. leaves a couple long runs of line that makes it easy and smooth to work with various different sizes of line spools and reels.

all told, I'm pretty sure we came in under $370.

NOTES- swift setups are awesome if you can find them. keep your old spools, you might need them. foot pedals are cool, but sometimes the trigger on your drill works better.

It sounds like you'll be in the game for a while, get the SC125. Cheap Rube Goldberg setups are ultimately a waste of money in my view. It's worth the investment and the resale value on these Triangle machines is very high.

Honestly depends on how much money you have that you can invest into the sport. Personally, kids make it hard to drop a grand on a line winder. But already owned a Bees Knees line winder, so spending$100 on the piece that holds the reel and attaches the drill was worth it to me. Always better to invest in higher quality gear, but sometimes, you just don't have the capital to invest in the higher quality gear. You can easily make do with this set up. The only thing I would add is the pedal that is used in the Sato system so you can use your feet to control the line winder and your hand to guide the line in.

All electric drill motors use ac/dc motors, so all you have to do is buy a foot pedal. Industrial grade.

But be sure it has enough amperage to handle the drill motor that you have. I don't think a sewing machine foot pedal is strong enough.

That is correct a sewing machine pedal will not hold up to the amps needed I have a heavy duty pedal I can use with the drill I already have

The SCT setup doesn't work well. Main issue is the side that holds the filler spool. Hardly any tension at all so what the point? The other side that holds the reel is fine, but its pretty much useless without the other. Don't waste your $$.

I’m in the process of building a Frankenwinder with the the Beesknees spooler. Im going to add the Chatham reel winder and maybe their line counter too.

I don’t want to spend 1200.00 or more on a line winder either.
For around 400.00 I’ll have a setup that should do the job just fine

I have 1/2 of a system… Still have to crank.
Legit? Worth $100+? 30lbs+ of drag? Shaft wobble like crazy against the load because it's only supported on one side? Can see it happening just a little bit in the video. Assuming that's with a light load.

Works well… Very stable. The shaft to the line spool have 2 cones that center the spool on each side, no spool wobble. The cones move with the spool with bearings. The drag is smooth and like it says plenty of drag. At home car tire holds it down, on the boat I have the optional mounting block.
Totally understand if it is not worth it to you but personally installing heavy spectra on big reels needs a really tight pack.

    Legit? - YES
Worth$100+? - Well, I bought one and I am happy with my purchase and the price
30lbs of drag? - Why would you need 30 lbs of drag spooling a reel? It would probably do it
    Shaft wobble? - No

    Yeah,
If you can weld and have the tools, why not?
It's basically made with 1" square tubing, I like 14 gauge, and 3/8" threaded rod.

I just bought this line winder directly from Busted Fishing. Like that it has a 2 to 1 reduction gear and can handle a 80 size reel. Packing spectra on spool needs at least 15# drag. 699 AUD is 460 USD.

I have a Berkley model HD-11 Metering Machine (line spooler) that I need to get rid of. It was given to me and I don't have a use for it I cleaned and lubed it and it works great. You pay for shipping and I'll give it to you. I'm up in Northern California and no this isn't a scam. I can send pictures if you give me a cell number because I don't know how to post them on BD. Yes i'm old.
Hi I sent you a pm.

I just got the line winder from Busted Fishing. First thing a week from ordering and receiving including an Australian holiday is wow…. one week. The box that the line winder comes in is small. But parts all come together and totally blown away by the engineering and quality. Like the Bee’s Knee’s spooler this is engineering and quality. Almost get’s me all teary eyed with emotion how well this thing was designed and usually I am pretty critical. 699 AUD came to 460ish USD on my Visa.

If you purchase, you need the Bee’s Knee’s and be sure the drill is going in the anti-clockwise direction.

This reel winder will handle an 80W and with the reduction gear all the packing tension needed for spectra.
