I don't know the brand you mentioned, but I'm cheap too, so here's what I did:
I started with a SATO line-winder. they're not super common, but every now and then you can find a used one for pretty darn cheap. way less than $370.
my seller threw in his old power drill, but many of us already have nicer large-chuck power drills.
KEY MOD #1- we replaced the previous mini sheet of plywood for a much larger base. rubber pads added for quiet and stability. all the SATO parts were applied, in roughly the same general pattern, but over a much larger area. this has made it so much nicer to use!
KEY MOD #2- we used a bunch of tinkering mods to make better, more adjustable, and more consistent drag on the line spool. personally, I think this part is the best place to invest your dollars. there's a NZ company that makes a killer drag setup, I think it's called "bees knees" or something...? even more rare to find these used, but I've seen it a couple times.
KEY MOD $3- we added a line counter. SO NICE for marking your lines for nighttime jigging!
Finally, we set up a huge pulley so the line goes from spool, to pulley, into the reels at the appropriate height. leaves a couple long runs of line that makes it easy and smooth to work with various different sizes of line spools and reels.
all told, I'm pretty sure we came in under $370.
NOTES- swift setups are awesome if you can find them. keep your old spools, you might need them. foot pedals are cool, but sometimes the trigger on your drill works better.
