Actually you can make this shit up and you did. These guys were far enough away from you to drop traps until you pulled up and demanded they leave. You then dropped traps next to his boat and took this picture. I fish this boat often and this is not how they roll! The owner is not a " dickhead" or any of the other comments I've seen in this thread. He spends a lot of time on the water and knows exactly what he is doing! As for skipping out on mooring fees, total BS, those of us who fish on the Confluence are very competitive when it comes to paying trip costs. So you guys can keep making shit up but there's 2 sides to this and your not being truthful.
Is it your position that there is no dumbasses on the water who don’t respect the space of others?

No, I've had people pull my hoop nets and claim they thought they were abandoned, had lines run over while trolling and even had someone hit a kite rig. They're definitely out there.

It bothers me when I see another boat within sight . 95% of the time they are non fishing pangas. Snorkel, whale, dolphin, sea turtle, tours. Off the grid

Have yet to have another vessel fish close to me :D way down here

Went over to the island on Sunday for a little lobster trip. Ended up getting 12 legals for the two of us. Fished sort of deep, 150- 250 feet.

After setting all our nets, this asshat comes in and proceeds to drop literally right in the middle of three of our nets that were really close. We were not taking up a lot of area.

I ask him what he was doing and his response was, “we’ve been fishing this spot for a long time.” His next response was, “ I could drop ten nets, but I’m only going to drop two.”

After a conversation which included a lot of four letter words, he said fuck it and dropped his nets anyway.

I watched him drop. He didn’t have enough rope or floats to fish the spot. He barely was able to get his first net back before it was under water.

He then tells me that he is going to let me have the spot, because he is a better man and I’m an A-hole.

Zoom in on the picture. You will see my floats off his port and starboard.

You can’t make this shit up.View attachment 1114322
"He has fished this spot before" well ..... then he should have known how much rope he would need to set. Thats what happened when you get a trophy for finishing last.

I didn't know there was a bass tournament going on. These bass pro's told me I was in there spot and there is a tournament going on and I should go fish somewhere else. Before I could tell the guy to move on in he called me a fat ass. So I sat on the spot all day and caught and released over fifty Bass. They were really mad at me. Made me feel all warm inside.

I have been pushing for a "That Guy" sticky thread for a long time now....
Eventually all of our boats would be on the thread and we'd be back at the same place.

I have pictures and video of dumbass stuff I wanted to create a thread for, I know the other boat is going to comeback with their spin.

Never hurts to discuss boating etiquette, Actually a step above that is fishing boat etiquette. Got to put on your thinking cap instead of your selfish cap.

We all make mistakes and most of us feel sorry and say so. But there are a lot of Dumbasses that hate and just don't care. You are right LJ, it never hurts to discuss fishing etiquette. We have some young guy's right now that are teaching us good etiquette in there fishing reports. At the beginning of last season I put out a etiquette video where 100 people voted it's getting worse. I have a new Dumbass video coming out soon.

Cory hit the nail on the head. I agree that we all make mistakes at some point and potentially do something that may piss someone off however it is all how you handle the situation.

Would we potentially all wind up on the list because of hearing the otherside... maybe, but with the advent of cameras in everyones pocket or mounted to their dash's t-tops etc, I think it would be easy for everyone to see who was in wrong.

I have made plenty of mistakes like setting up a drift wrong etc. Once I knew I screwed up I apologized to the other party and corrected the situation. People have done "That Guy" stuff to me, if they apologized sincerely, like they truly didn't know, I forget all about it. I certainly wouldn't post about it.

There are just some common sense rules and sincerity in correcting the situation goes a long way. Meaning if you set up a drift wrong and get to close to a boat, don't apologize and punch the throttles to get away with the intent of fucking it up for him. Just say I am sorry, I mis-calculated etc and idle away.

If everyone just follows common sense most should be fine.

Which a "That Guy" thread would help teach. Someone does something and winds up on there, that means there is already half of the story because the offended party posted it. Now the offending party comes on to "set the story straight." Then the BD community can comment.

I think a majority of people on here do have common sense about fishing etiquette. Reason being, if you are member of this site more than likely fishing is more than just a part time hobby that you do once a year. You are reading about, jealously looking at others reports, talking with other people about fishing and jonesing for the next time you can get out.

OK you convinced me. My boat will rarely be on that thread, however It most likely would be my morning read. Love when it gets heated for a good cause, or no cause, Just like people policing their selves.

You were not on the the boat that night so STFU. It went down exactly how I described it. We absolutely did not drop any nets near them after the encroached on our pots. They simply didn’t care. Again, they only left because they were unable to drop in the deep water. So go fuck yourself.

You really think we dropped nets next to his boat , just to take a picture, so we could blast him on the internet. Your a bigger idiot than they were that night.

I have been made aware of this post by some friends, and I feeI I need to set this straight.
We were on a friends and family trip, with no intension of a heavy bug-fishing night.
We were on an Emerald bay mooring and prepped four traps for the incoming tide.
I went to an area we call the 120, and I could see one boat with what appeared to be sets of traps to the East and South of the 120. Seeing those traps, we decided to move well clear of them.
I proceeded North at 6 knts, scanning and working my way to an outer mark. I talked to my guys about our plan to drop two traps out deep for the incoming tide, making sure they were at least 150 yards clear of any other traps.
As we reached our mark where there were absolutely no traps set, that same boat quickly came up right on my stern.
I went down to the deck to talk to them, and I let them know we intended to only drop two traps there for about an hour. This sent these guys into a verbal, profanity-laced assault.
By the time I had dropped one trap (poorly I might add) these guys had quickly dropped multiple traps around us.
Seeing this, we recognized that these guys planned to fish all their gear in this area and we would be better off just moving completely away from them. We pulled our one trap and called the other boat over.
I let them know that we had pulled our trap (within 10 minutes of setting) and we would clear the area. I offered good luck and safe fishing, they did the same and we fished another area.
We felt this had been resolved amicably on the water and I hadn’t given it much more thought, other than it was the right thing to do.
I have fished this area for seven years with multiple boats in this area at the same time, without ever having any incident.

I was very disappointed to hear about this post on Bloody Decks, but based on the way these guys originally approached us about this situation, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
For anyone wondering, we set 4 traps for the incoming tide well clear of that area and got 14 keepers in 1 set.
That’s all we ever planned on doing as we intended to spend the rest of the evening with our families.

You are either completely oblivious to your surroundings on the water that night or you are a complete liar. I don’t think your oblivious, because we made you very aware of where our nets were before you dropped. It was civil before that, but when you dropped after us letting you know we we had nets all around you, that’s when the profanity started.

To come on here with the defense that we dropped our nets around you after you dropped, is complete horse shit. The picture doesn’t lie, but you do.

I had no intention of naming your boat on the internet. But now that it’s been named and accused of other conduct regarding moorings, I can understand why you would come up with this story to save face a little.

Again, the picture doesn’t lie.

I am jumping in on this a little late and I was not there on the night in question. But social media character assassination bothers me. I have fished on the blue boat many times and the guy who runs that boat has been on my boat many times. I know him well. He is a straight up guy who loves to fish and share his love of fishing with friends and those he meets on the water. This guy goes out of his way make those around him, including other boats and fisherman have a good experience. I don't know the other fisherman or his boat so I can't comment on the veracity of his claims but I know the guy who runs that blue sport fisher is not the guy described in the media blasting first posted.

First post, welcome to Bloody Decks. The one thing you can count on coming on here is there will always be some kind of controversy and lots of good entertainment with some good fishing advice and helpful information thrown in... enjoy.

I have been on the receiving end of things like this, one of which was a thread a guy posted saying "we never get checked for a passport or a visa" and had a picture of his boat flying the Mexican flag and a BD flag under it. I was the third person to respond to this thread and it seemed clear to me that this guy had already done this or was thinking about doing it, so I said " do you know what it means when you fly a flag on your boat and the seriousness of doing that?" he replied that they go right by them and check someone else. The rest of the page was nothing but everyone ragging on me for not having a sense of humor or tell it was a joke... even after his reply to me. At the end of the page his fishing partner thought I didn't believe him and put up two posts saying that they had done it four or five times and it was true the Mexicans went right by them and checked the other boats, CONFIRMING THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED. I replied "I am sure they did, flying the flag on your boat is your boats passport and visa to enter another country, it is declaring that it and you are citizens of that country. of course they didn't stop and check for a passport or a visa they think you are Mexican citizens. When they notice that Ca. sticker on your boat they will check you, and even if you have a passport and a visa they aren't going to escort you to the border like they do everyone else, telling you to get the fuck out of their country and don't come back without the proper paper work... they are going to be towing your boat to Ensenada where they will either deport you or put your ass in jail and confiscate your boat and some Mexican will be fishing it next week. You are dealing with the captain of a Mexican war ship who has no sense of humor and takes flying his flag seriously just as the captains of US war ships would." The next entire page was still filled ragging on me because I didn't have a sense of humor. The last post before they closed it was from me saying i do have a sense of humor but this wasn't humor and the OP should have stepped up and said something, something like thank you for saving me from jail and not losing my boat, I'll take you fishing. The OP sent me a pm saying thank you and you can go fishing with us anytime. I learned two things from that, one- people either didn't read a post if it was very long or they were incapable of understanding what they were reading. and two- how fucking ignorant people on here are about the flag, how to fly it, what it means when you do, and that there were any laws concerning the flag.... un fucking believable but true. The point being, if your gonna say something on here, true or not... be prepared someone isn't going to agree or know how to understand the written word and you will hear some shit about it so have thick skin or don't pay any attention to it. But read the long posts you just might learn something and always ask why. rant over, later bitches... lol
