Heading a new direction now with retirement looming closer and closer 😊 Time for Dos Viejos to go to someone who can enjoy heading offshore!! I tried to list all the features/upgrades and good/bad as I know it.

PRICE REDUCTION!!
8K OBO.

I am sure that I missed something so just ask.

1973 Chaparral 24’ Fishing Cuddy

Bought this boat three years ago for local inshore/offshore fishing. Previous owner took it to Catalina for overnight trips. I have used it primarily for day trips. Launching out of Mission Bay and going as far out as the corner and the 209 trolling all day with no issues.

Cruises at 26mph (2900rpm) This is as fast as I have taken her.

Rides a comfortable 21mph (2400rpm) all day long in 3’ swells. Obviously a much better/faster/smoother ride when its better sea conditions.

I will try to list out EVERYTHING I know about it and all the equipment/upgrades etc. I will also list out what I know is wrong with it.

Features:
V-Berth:

  • Comfortable V-Berth with cushions and tons of storage under them
  • If you Add the extra section to make a bed comfy enough for sleeping two easily.
  • Had a cartridge style porta potty head in there that I removed (never needed it.)
Dash:
  • Dash carpet replaced with marine grade
  • Windows flip up and lock for awesome ventilation (can use some TLC)
Cockpit:
  • 2 flip down captains seats
  • New foot rests that you can actually stand up on
  • Ice chest / Bench combo mounted in center with reversal back support
  • Blue Canvas awning with storage cover
  • Will cover completely two seats with plenty of headroom
  • Newer adjustable straps
Fishing:
  • Stainless adjustable rod holders (5 on each side)
  • Addition Rod holders on stern and side gunwales (8 total)
  • Rod holders on port and starboard sides (hold 3 or 4 each side) Could use reworking but they do work as is.
  • ½ scoop bait bag with Rule Tournament Series 800gph
  • Rear fish hold (great for smaller grade stuff, your not putting a 30# tuna in there 😊
  • Rod holders
  • No problem fishing four adults all day
Electronics:

Engine:
  • Ford 351c
  • Unknown hours
  • Fires right up every time
  • Engine burns VERY LITTLE oil
  • Never runs higher than 175temp
  • Remanufactured Holly 4160 four barrel with elect choke Last installed last year
  • Brand new MSD Blaster Coil
  • New Throttle cable installed
  • New Shifter Cables installed with upgraded Shifter cable plate. Upgrade from older roller neutral safety switch style. (See pics inside transom)
  • Flushed out after EVERY trip for at least 20 minutes
Electrical:
  • Rewired ALL gauges, pumps, side lights, etc. with Marine grade wire and heat shrink connectors
  • New Custom switch dash panel with all new lighted rocker switches
  • Blue Sea blade style fuse box
  • 2 Interstate Marine Batteries installed one year ago
  • Newer Perko Battery Selector Switch with OFF, 1, 2, ALL
Fuel:
  • Aluminum 53 gallon tank in the floor
  • Removed two years ago due to leak on the mount tab
  • Professionally cleaned and welded – No more leaks 😊
  • New fuel vent hose installed – routes to thru hull vent on Starboard side
  • I can run offshore with a combo of 26mph and a lot of trolling, run and gun style fishing and cover 760 miles and it will take 25 gallons to fill back up. Your mileage may vary. If I kept it at 21mph im pretty sure the mileage will go way up.
  • I installed the Garmin Fuel Flow Sensor recently and haven’t been able to fully dial it in yet
Outdrive:
  • Mercruiser Gen1 in excellent condition
  • 19” pitch prop with spare 17”
  • Completely rebuilt Top and Lower end March 2020
  • Shifts very smooth
  • Tilt Trim goes up and down every time.
  • Always stored with drive all the way down
  • Always towed with drive up and Ram supports in place
Trailer:
  • Drydock trailer with perm plates
  • New 10k 2-5/16 Heavy Duty coupler added
  • Brand new 12 ply Towmax tires (4) installed
  • Brand new 5 lug white spoke wheels with new chrome nuts
  • New heavy duty double wheel swing away trailer jack installed
  • New LED rear lights
  • New trailer wiring and plug replaced 2019
  • New side rail guides boards replaced with new carpet and hardware
  • All bunks replaced with new wood and marine carpet and stainless hardware
  • All rollers except one up in front replaced

What would I do if I kept it: None of the items listed would stop me from heading out Just on the list of todo next.

Shifter binnacle:
  • although taken apart and re-greased when new cables went on can probably use replacement (Still works fine)
Hour meter gauge:
  • Hook up Hour meter gauge
Tilt Trim Pump:
  • works every time but if you look at the pic, previous owner did some weird wiring. I have two brand new MARINE solenoids that go with the boat just haven’t tackled that yet
Bait Bag:
  • I would want to put a real bait tank in the center of the cockpit
Wheel Bearings:
  • Its time for repacking
Distributor:
  • Replace with a MSD DUI Electronic Distributor
Windlass:
  • Install one!! That anchor is Heavy!

I tried to include as many pics to show different angles etc. if you wanna see something different let me know ill take a pic and add it.

760 miles on 25 gallons of fuel?
Thank you for Catching that "Obvious" Typo that I didn't catch after numerous prrof reads HJAHAHAHAH!!

It should read!! :)

  • I can run offshore with a combo of 26mph and a lot of trolling, run and gun style fishing and cover "60 miles and it will take 25 gallons" to fill back up.
  • "Your mileage may vary". If I kept it at 21mph im pretty sure the mileage will go way up.

do you know the tow weight of the boat and trailer by chance? Thanks!

Sorry eMan I missed this alert!! im not really sure but it being an older "hand layed" glass boat its a bit on the heavy side. My f250 pulls it and stops with no problems at all. I would think that a 1/2 could pull it but I never tried it. You would want to fix the brakes for sure if plan on pulling with a 1/2 ton.
