10lb on the Tranx and 20lb on the Komodo is way too light IMHO. I’d use the Tranx for 20lb and the Komodo for 30-40lb. Just my $.02.
I know, I will do 30 with the komodo for jigging applications or if the smaller bluefin are biting it. The TranX is good for 10 and 20 too. I'll be using 10 and 20 for bait on schoolies
Trust me some of those burgers are legit the best you’ll ever eat
I've tried then before...
They really are...

SD full day offshore trips are very different from LBC full day Catalina trips. Sounds like youre going offshore. If so, skip the 10lb line. With 30+ on the boat you’re likely to piss off the crew and possibly lose the fish. Start with 20 on the Tranx and 25-30 on the Komodo.

You seem like a big gear guy. You did well there. Now go be a big fishing guy.

One thing I would change in here is the Tiagra, too heavy imo. I would prefer a Penn VISX 50.
Looks like a dope arsenal for socal fishing though.

I picked up a PCH 741 XXXH today. INSANE lifting power, 10lb deadlift was like nothing.
Ganna be picking up a Visx 16 or 20 for it tomorrow.

Have you ever hooked a large fish on the kite before? I’m guessing no. The weight of one of these reels is a mute point in the rod holder. Tiagras are heavy framed reels that can take abuse and a track record to back it.

Thats what i hear. Just dont think there worth the price imo. The penn visx just seems to have a better design. Not to big for shimanos big game reels anymore.

I would use the 15ld2 700ml as your 30# rig and get something for 40. Like a us80monster/us80hp and fth25nld2.

I think you’re going to find what works best for you through some trial and error. For me, I like the levelwind reels for lure fishing, but they’re not at all my choice for fishing bait. I like reels that are completely open for flylining—no top bar, either.

I tend to bring way too much stuff for whatever I’m doing, but if I had to go the minimalist route, I’d have two rods that could fish anything from 15-50 for bait (GG270-8H and GG6480), and dedicate the levelwinds to lure fishing—and in that case, I’d bump up the leader size on the Tranx to 30# (minimum).

Haven’t put the rail rods to the test yet, hoping to next week on a 2.5 Day. I like the PCH rods, really light, responsive and for the price point cannot beat it imo. I feel the rods fish at the lower end of their ratings. Looking to upgrade to UC for next season.
