is it a fit in between model, does it replace another existing line? I am not clear on what it is.
It does not replace the standard or Raptor line; it fits in between and is priced accordingly. There are G2 versions of LX, MX and SX reels; no G2 version the HX.
It's a new line. Being a step up from the regular models (more drag) but not as powerful as the Raptors.

So, is there a need for a new line in-between? Just curious.
I liked it when I could just buy any Avet and believe I got the best reel in that size.
I suspect this series is being offered because of all the people who are crushing bearings from maxing out their little reels. It will be interesting to see if eventually they phase out their standard line up.
I thought that is what Raptors are for.
Sure, but there's a big price difference there. I think competition has forced Avet to the G2. I have no crystal ball, but would not be surprised to see the old product line dropped in time.
I've been told the they will not be dropping the old line of reels, although I can imagine that if the G2 series is wildly successful, they just might.
