He was on a freakin' snowmobile, why did he not just drive away? Pretty sure you would get a citation for poaching if you did that in Wyoming...

I have been charged by moose, cows are usually protecting their young or stressed out by predators or people. I carry pepper spray now to keep them away from my dogs when I am skiing......

Wow. I fear that moment every time I flyfish in the mountains of Northern Colorado. But this situation seemed avoidable. A warning shot even from 50 yards back before he advanced and engaged the animal? I know u can't just turn a sled around on a trail like that but some patience might have saved that animals life

    ok i'll bite ...

i agree it might have been avoidable, but i would give the snowmobiler the benefit of the doubt in this situation.

the moose charged once, and he was VERY lucky he was not injured w/ those kicks. he drew, and it appeared, at least to me, the moose was going to charge a second time. i've never been in that specific situation, but i would probably have done the same thing.

i'm actually surprised the glock was able to take the moose down. in any event, it is tragic that it went down that way.

What an asshole I bet if he didn't have a gun he wouldn't have approached the moose, and the moose wouldn't have approached him. I bet if he would have backed out n kicked back for a few minutes the moose would have passed by and he could have gotten through. Just seems like there's plenty he could have done to avoid killing it.

Tough to arm char quarterback that one. I guess he could have stayed back on the trail and not approached the Moose. Other than that, I think he was totally in the right to defend himself. The Moose was coming back for another charge.

    ok, I'll bite too.......

I think things took a turn south when the person decided to motor up further, possibly challenging the moose and resulting in what took place!!! But on the other hand....had he got off the sled(when he initially saw him) and walked back up the trail away from the animal, he still could have been pursued and again resulting in the mooses death. Tough call here. The law probably expects you to make every attempt to safely flee but when push comes to shove, hopefully a judge will exercise some understanding and leniency!!!

Hopefully you dress it out, pack it and "get out a dodge b4 wildlife p.d. show up.

Like most on this thread......I kind of understand that humans are the most intelligent species on the planet. In the times I have encountered an animal that I do not desire to cross paths with I render passage to the less intelligent.

I watched the video 10 times.Looks to me like the guy charged the moose ! why drive towards it when its just standing there ? the moose looked like it was provoked to charge him.The worst part was shooting it when it was not even near him,he shot before the moose even got turned around to charge. That guy didnt give the moose much of a chance to back away.

It seemed to me that the snowmobiler had shooed moose away many times before.
Not living in Moose country I can't judge how I'd expect one to behave(although that hasn't stopped several of you). If he bum rushes me and I'm armed I'm unloading though.

I've watched this several times. I've also had to deal with Moose like this several times. Usually they scoot. Sometimes they want to kick your ass. No Moose behaves the same. This may have been the only trail through and they usually beat it. This time it didn't.

The only thing I really see jacked up is he didn't stick around to make sure it was down for good. Or maybe he did we don't know. Bottom line is if that hoof connects the guy is dead. Moose have been known to stamp out someone pretty easily if they want.

that was a dick head move, the moose was leaving all he had to do was just kick back for a few minutes and the moose would have left the trail instead he moved towards it again. i hope fish and game nails his ass to the wall... living here in Alaska i have been in simular situations many times with Moose & Brown Bears and just a warning shot over the head cures the promblem 9 out of 10 times. :finger:
