Made it out Saturday for a few hours late morning. Cruised straight out to where the water got nice and started looking around. Found a couple decent looking patties but only managed a few pretty small yellows on flat fall and generic colt sniper type jigs. Found these guys boiling up a storm:

I guess they're bullet tuna? Busted out some light gear and had a good time on the small iron. Got a few more small yellowtail (threw everything back) and headed in to fulfill familial obligations. Water was up to 78 degrees in some spots and it was hot as hell with no breeze at all.

A coast guard helo checked me out for a while and I noticed no air traffic out of LAX - then saw Obama's entourage head out of LAX to Santa Monica I think. Pretty cool - two marine ones and 3 of those V22 Ospreys. I'd seen them practicing last week.

Also saw a couple marlin but didn't try anything. There's tons of 1-3 pound yellowtail out there hopefully they stick around and get big. Nothing spectacular and not quite what I was hoping for but a good time anyway.

    Have a good week.

Bolitos. THE bait for big tuna down south. Also make killer marlin bait. Very hard to keep in tuna tubes.

I have not caught one of those in 30 years. They make great catfish bait. The meat has so much oil it floats
I bet it will work great for lobster bait.

Thanks for the report. How far out to get past the sewer water?

The sardines were all over the "scum slicks" around the pipe that day.

Thanks a lot for the report. Doesn't ever seem to be much being reported on this side of the peninsula.

Clean water started maybe 3 or so miles out. I'd never caught or seen one of those bullets until the last couple weeks -- pretty cool looking feesh. Families doing great J - hope yours is as well. Hopefully you'll see the little guy out there one of these days!. Not very many SMB reports usually but there's plenty to do out there - hit it up!

Nice work on the bullet tuna (katsuo?). I ran down to rocky point early monday to look for some tails but we only found the mini models. Tons of bait around the oil scum lines off d'weiler. Lots of calicos and bonito to play with on the fly & mini jigs to keep things fun. I'll try again next week if the conditions stay nice. Thanks for the report.

Been out with Vince when I can. Not much time to report these days with baby #2. Got a nice 30lb yellow with corbinafly a month back or so. Hooping time as well.

Got Evan out twice with Vince. His first fish a calico. Going to get him out hooping once the time changes. :D

    See you soon.
