Went out with Norm, Carrie, Ron, and Jean. Was an awesome day.

All we wanted at the attached location.

Pretty sure I had a decent BFT eat my flatfall at 100’. Set the hook and the bugger shook his head and ran straight down. Couldn’t stop him. Got to the last wrap on my spool and the jig came loose. Tranx 300 with 180 yards of line. As soon as I set the hook and he turned, I knew I was SCREWED. We just watched the line peel off layer after layer. It was awesome!!!!

Today is also Dad’s bday. Would have been 73. Brought out the Wraptor rod and Avet reel many of you got for me. Pulled the sleeve off it, collar-hooked a Michael Phelps, and dropped it over the side. Got bit in 15 seconds. 20+ pound albacore in the box! Thanks pop!

Go get em kids.

I had one of those screamers today as well. Flicked the clicker on as a joke, but it quickly became evident it was not! Peeled off all the line on my Avet MXJ, got to the arbor knot and the leader popped. got everything back but the bait hook. No frays in the line. Great fishing out there!

Regards to your dad, happy you got to use that rod again!

Nice deck. How many did you guys end up getting? Any on troll. Debating one last tuna trip out oid Westport or Ilwaco to get the new to us Grady decks good and bloody. Nothing compares to the albacore blood bath. Thanks for posting the pics, I have to get better at taking pics when we're out.

There are 39 others that contributed to the blood. 2 troll stops: one fish on a purple Xrap and then one on a Mexican flag daisy chain, but on the same line. Loads of fish out there, but watch the forecast later this week... yowser.

looks like hell out there until Thursday when it starts laying back down. Friday looks good but I wonder if the weather will run the fish further out? There's a 50/50 chance my CA trip to see son will be cancelled this weekend and if so I would like to hunt some Albacore.

Looked at second report and clearly 12 to 15 swells by Friday will still potentially be ugly depending on spacing. Fun fall waters!

I like to keep them nice and cold from when we kill them until they hit the freezer. Time to start trimming bloodlines and get them into the chamber sealer

Dude. No doubt. I prefer to stay light for the 99.9% of our fish. But damnit, this is twice in two seasons we’ve had our asses handed to us with a flatfall. I prefer to throw iron (I go deep, so deep...), there have been more and more sightings of big shapes, and more spooling and lost uNknown fishies, it may be time to step up to a big kid rig.

I'll post a full report soon- Messaged Norm Sun eve and he sent that grid pic Started for those numbers at 5:05 ( slow Arima remember but very smooth water so we could get 22 in the dark ) but didn't make it that far. Saw a jumper at 125: 10 at 8 AM and started getting troll fish @ 12, 13 and 14. No live bait hits the first three then we got one- next troll hit was a triple but lost one and got 5 with bait. A few more troll and bait guys.
15 ( 2 peanuts - the rest 20, 25 and one 30 weighed )on the boat was enough for the 3 of us. Started back at 1 PM :)

No other sport Tuna boats in evidence. A few commercial ones but a Lot of empty water.

Check Windy.com for this week.....

Thanks for the numbers, we never got out that far, pulled up short a couple miles and immediately were into fish....plugged in no time. Saved me from a run up to the QC today, which is what I had planned before your post last night, and who knows. Thanks again for sharing.

Awesome bloody report!
Curious how bar was on morning rides out, from what I saw pretty good ebb 3+ knots. So with a small swell like ~3' and a long period what's it like? I assume not so rough

There was NO swell. That can have a big effect. When we came home, the outgoing current was pretty strong, around 3+ knots. Had there been a decent swell, I bet it would have sucked for most boats.
