Home Depot rents them for $35.00 or something like that, it's been a year or two since I needed one. Good Luck. About five years ago around this time of year my wifes aunt (over from Holland) was helping with food for a party. Wifes at the store, she comes out to the garage and says the sink is plugged. I go check and she has husked about twenty five ears of corn and was trying to stuff them all down the GD (WTF). Shit, I had corn husk coming out of the clean-out and half way to the street. Looked like a wood chipper accident ... Ha now, but it wasn't funny then. But I feel for ya. Again good luck.

Mike, been there. It's your sewer line, and it's probably a root. You first experience it with the washer as that will pump major volumes of water in a short span. Then when your relative dumped the thick soup the root captured the soup solids and clogged up the line. You could try snaking it yourself and will see some success, but it will return. You would best be served having a plumbing/rooter company come out and assess it.

My problem is definitely not potato peels as we have never put any of those in the sink. For me this all started with that damn soup that was (unknowing to me) put down the sink over thanksgiving.

I still cant believe that soup is causing me this much trouble!

Mike, see my post above. The soup was just the final straw to clog it. You've got a bigger clog problem most likely caused by a root in the main sewer line.

Call your insurance company. When mine leaked they refered me to a plumber that repiped the house in the attic for what insurance would pay for the repair plus $500

I dunno Steve, but I honestly dont believe mine is a root problem at all. We bought this house in 96, and there were 2 big pine trees planted near the house (one in the front yard and one in the back yard), as well as one juniper in the front as well. I had all of those trees cut down within the first two year we had bought the house. As of now there are no trees anywhere near this house whatsoever, and we never have had any issue with the kichen sink or the bathroom sink draining, as they have always drained perfectly in the past.

Karl is coming over today at around 10:00am, so fingers crossed he can pull this off and get it fixed without it being a huge headache.

A problem we had was grease! As soon as the grease gets cold it turns hard and blocks at a y joint. Any food with grease is like that and can blend well with anything that gets put down it.

DON'T PUT FOOD DOWN THE SINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to beat this into everyone's head as I got tired of getting on the roof to snake drains.

Yup. Same with my wife. She thinks the GD will do everything. I keep telling her not to put anything down the sink that can go in the trash...
