Woke up to heavy rim fog, but still drove the whopping 2 miles down the road to Deep Creek. My son and I were looking for some of the wild rainbow & brown's that lurk in the pools.

Weather was beautiful, but the water was a bit too high. No signs of hatches, or other life. Still, hiking around with my boy all morning is a good day.

How do you get to a spot like that? I'll be up at Arrowhead on Saturday and might like to take a little hike to check it out.

Deep Creek, outa Cedar Glen. If you are coming up Sunday, PM me and I'll get you dialed in.

Thanks, but I'm going to be there on Saturday. I'll check out some maps and maybe head over there and see if I can find my way down there.

Dooops. meant on saturday.. All you need to do is follow Hwy 173 around Arrowhead to Cedar Glen. Take Hook Creek Rd thru Cedar Glen and down to where it dead ends. Continue thru USFS gate onto fire road. Follow down until you hit the only fork in the road you'll come to. There's a nice sign regarding fishing opportunities.

If you fork right, you'll eventually drive right to Deep Creek( less than 1/2 mile). Park by the bridge and make your way up the creek to some good pools. Some rock scrambling and minor wall climbing, but nothing extreme. If you fork left, there's a road closure and you'll have to walk about 1/2 mile to the splinter's cabin trailhead to get to the creek. Pics were from both locations, though the best stuff is on the upper end.

Might snow this weekend to 5000', so be ready. And, light truck or SUV for the ride down. Fishing or not, it'll clear your brain out in a good way.

Thanks for the directions. I made it to the bridge over the creek and parked at the little lot on the far side. I don't have a forest service parking pass so I didn't want to stick around too long. I'll get one at the gas station at 5 points 'cuz I'm definitely going back now that I know where it is.

mark,as it warms up you'll definitely want to keep your eyes open for rattlers, they seem to have an affinity for that drainage.

Next time you roll up, let me know. It's an awesome place, huh! And real true on the rattlers. When my son was about 4, we were sitting at that little beach by the bridge and he was trying to catch a 'lizard'.... Baby rattler. Still makes me queasy thinking about that.

I have fished deep creek in the past and it isn't anything to get excited about. It is a great place to hike and even cruise back to the falls and dive off of the cliffs but as far as fishing I wouldn't go out of my way. Not to be a downer but better off going more towards lake Arrowhead and fishing a couple of streams over there. If you are looking for trout also in that neck of the woods I would check out Green Valley Lake or even Gregory. Also if you are cruising down hwy 18 and you get into skyforest on the south side of the road you will see Bradco Environmental and on the right side you will see WestCoast Timber (I could be wrong about the name for WestCoast Timber). If you hike into West coast timber there is a pool back there loaded with trout but don't get caught! I have fished it a few times and it was fun but you have to be really quiet so no one hears you or they will call the cops because it's private property.

I'll be carefull, I've played with rattlers before and they're not that much fun. I've caught lots of trout in Lake Gregory over by the ball fields with my kids when they were smaller. My kids started fishing in Lake Mission Viejo when they were 4 and 5... they're 18 and 20 now. If I really want to catch fish (trout, bass or catfish) that's where I'll go... I keep a small boat there. I've had a condo near Arrowhead (5 points) for 19 years. Curtis, are you a cop up in the Arrowhead area?

Yeah, you are definitely not in for the fight of your life on a big trout. Still, there's something about pulling in a wild, native fish. They are absolutely beautiful to look at. Plus, it's great scenery back there. The pond at West Coast is called "deadman's" after a family went through the ice one year (about 15 years ago). Never fished it, but mountain biked by it alot.

I've hiked in pretty deep a couple of times & caught some pretty big browns & tons of nice size rainbows. if you put in the effort the fish are there.
