These guys are running a top notch outfit up here!

I had the honor of making the voyage Northward to Sitka, Alaska with Inside Sportfishing to capture the spirit of this beautiful place...<!--more-->

    The morning commute.

For the most part, the weather was very co-operative and granted us 5 days of quality fishing and filming conditions.
Justin Poe of Shimano with a quality King Salmon![IMG]

The biggest Ling Cod I have ever caught! Closed season on these guys so he was sent back down to 550ft. from where he came. Fishing a 16oz. jig that deep is gnarly!!!

    Solid YellowEye rockfish...
    COHO.

Seth Bone and his genuinely friendly staff and hard-working fleet made this trip seem like more of a vacation than work. The food, accommodations, service, and willingness to help us get the shots we were looking for was more impressive than anything. They showed us that there was more to experience in Sitka than just the incredible fishery...

We paid a visit to the Sitka Raptor Center-where Bald Eagles among other injured native raptors are rehabilitated and released back into The Wild!

We walked the shores of a nearby beach in the evenings to tussle with some pinks and chums...Justin with a nice pink on the waxwing.

We hit some shallow water (120ft.) with the butterfly jigs and wrecked shop on some beautiful rockfish!
    20lb.+Class YellowEYE!!!

Another tanker Yellow Eye and a beautiful China RockFish...

All of the new Shimano gear is INCREDIBLE! The talica20 handled the big Halibut, the Trini 16n and 10 merc'd the rockfish along with the Lucanis kit, and the Terez rods were a perfect match for the system!

    My first King Salmon!

    My largest Halibut!!!

There is a bass fishery that NOBODY in Alaska seems to pay attention to...The Black Bass is like a mix between a smallmouth and a calico bass! I was in Heaven when we made the trip into the True Shallows to target these guys with the WaxWing! I got them to eat the chatter bait as well! There are 1000s of islands with boilers like SCI on steroids filled with these gorgeous fish!
    BlackBassThumb! SWEET.
    [IMG][IMG]

If I could, I'd send my skiff up here and explore the islands for years to come!!! People there would just laugh at me as they passed by...An entire fishery all to myself???YUP.

We caught and released a great number of Coho Salmon, Pink Salmon, Halibut, and many species of Rock Fish. They have a great system with the down rigger and a pin that allows for a high survival rate on the release of these fish from the deeper water. I brought home 1 box of fish that will feed my family, friends, and neighbors for weeks to come. Sitka, Alaska is truly one of the most breath taking and rugged places I've been...The fishery is healthy and there seems to be a good number of fish along this entire coastline...Water temps were between 55 and 58, I couldn't believe it...I left LB with local temps in the high 50s! If you ever want to give this area some of your precious time, I'd recommend KingFisher Lodge as the place to stay! Thanks for adding some wonderful memories to the archives Alaska.

Great report. That's a cool looking bass. Any idea on how big they get? By the size of everything else in your pics they're probably considered baitfish up there lol

Did you get a chance to fish with Buffy while you were up there?

    Didn't fish with Buffy.
Epic trip though...Honestly, I'll be doing everything possible to make it back up there again in the next couple of summers.
Rent a skiff and disappear for a while.
