Simrad autopilot ap44 vs ap48

I have a new simrad nss evo3s with the nac2 and was planning on using the MFD for the auto pilot control. I am re-thinking that position. When I looked on the simrad site they are selling an ap48 for over a thousand dollars. I can find ap44's for around 500. Will the ap44 work on my setup and what is the difference between the two?

What's your set-up? i have a Grady 272 Sailfish with NAC-2 and the AP44 works fine.
