Just so happens I was in Depoe Bay last year. Not fishing, just a tourist. Everyone lines up along the bay entrance around 2:00everyday to watch the boats run the gauntlet back into the bay. Kinda like watching NASCAR, just waiting for that next wreck. What you don't see is just after passing under the bridge, there is a hard left turn followed by an immediate hard right turn to get back into the marina. Imagine running at speed, thread the needle now turn, turn again.

Guess they ran out of dynomite when the built the inlet. Could have uses a few more feet on either side.

I have run some horrid inlets. Most of my seat time was at the bar at Cape Disappointment / Columbia River. I have no desire to ever run this bar and inlet. You can double that if I had to make the inlet in one of the pigs that these guys commonly run. A regular there has to be a pretty damned good helmsman. That inlet won't tolerate fools for long.

thanks for not answering all the questions that may have helped cleared up all the confusion, Mark.
more questions for you not to answer:
that vertical bow on the endeavor....how does that work for "lift" on a semi-planing hull?
You told me that you talked with the skipper. did you ask him why his twin-screw was only running on one engine at a critical time?
did you talk with him about the speed that his boat has to maintain when running before the swell?

    More power to you, bro!

while you are working on the above questions, I am scratching my head over the power (and underpower) in these two posts:

I would say that the vessel is underpowered, and is NOT capable of running, "In front of the swell"....the swell's speed was greater than the vessel's forward motion, causing the vessel to lose steerage. We can ALL play Sunday Skipper...but those are THE FACTS!!.....Mark

    and

Bill; I will state the FACTS!!!....Sloooooowly...so "hopefully" you understand...The Endeavor is a 52 ft "Twin Screw" "900" HUNDRED HORSEPOWER SEMI-PLANING hull. Notice the acceleration of the Endeavor after it corrects it's position from the Southern jetty rocks. Here's a definition for your edification on "Hull Designs"...the FACT the Endeavor has 900 Horsepower removes it from being a "displacement hull"....Mark

so which is the true and which is not the true?

What could be a great dissection of how to run a tough inlet and how this craft was quartered, could be a great discussion with a ton to learn, all of which could be useful. Instead it turns into this fucking bullshit? What a waste.
