Logan did great on his first "longer" trip, and no doubt another hardcore Long-Ranger has been created.
I brought a number of "field-test" combos for "Slow-Pitch Jigging". Not exactly a new technique, but is just catching on here on the west coast.
Captain Paul was very enthusiastic about it, and borrowed the test setups as often as he could.
What exactly is slow pitch jigging Steve?
Is it just fishing a flatfall jig?

Scott

Its a specific technique, with specialized tackle that has been popular in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, etc. for a number of years.
Several US tackle companies are now introducing equipment for it, though with ICAST being canceled, it may be a patchy introduction.
Having been working with it for the past year or so, I would say its more of another "fun" way to fish for small/medium grade local fish than something that is absolutely crucial on offshore trips.
It does work well under classic "yo-yo" conditions for yellowtail.
In particular, it is super-effective on rockfish/lingcod, and the tackle is a lot more fun that what is usually used for them.
