I know this might not be the correct forum , but I figure it will reach the right people that will be affected. This Saturday, Feb 2, 2019, is the San Diego Anglers Bay Bass Tournament out of Shelter Island launch ramp. It will be a full field and the launch ramp will be a zoo from 4:00 am until 6:15am and then again from 12:30 pm until about 2 pm. You are welcome to try and use the ramp at these times but it will be at maximum capacity as people are trying to launch for the tourney and then again scrambling to get back on the trailer to get their fish weighed in time. If you were planning on fishing, I might look for an alternate launch ramp.

If your not fishing, you are welcome to come down to check the tourney out. Good Times!

    Thanks for your ear.

New launch ramp is horrible anyways. Went out 2 weeks ago. Total cluster fuck getting back in. I feel like the opening is smaller and hard to see whats coming and going. The big rock walls dont help and we were in a 21 foot boat. Good luck everyone fishing the tournament.

I launched at Davis in Long Beach last year in the middle of a fishing tournament, the people involved in the tournament was polite enough to help none participants launch and get out of their way.
Maybe this tournament could show such good manners, after all its a public launch ramp.

I thought it was just me.I don't see any real improvement either other than the potholes are gone.It sure doesn't seem any bigger as they claimed it would be.I'm just glad it's open again.

I've got fond memories of Shelter Launch Ramp .... from the under-sized tow vehicles to the cluster-f*$% of too many boats, too little dock space ...

The new launch ramp remodel sucks!! It probably looked impressive on paper, but as you enter the dock, just outside of the seawall, it's like merging onto the Xang Pao Expressway in China or the traffic circle in Tijuana!!
They need to add a New York style Traffic Police Officer, with whistle, bullhorn, double yellow lines, a large spot mirror and a traffic signal!! If you think I am being sarcastic, than try it for yourself, oh, and look at the gallery on top of the parking lot!!! More fans there, than the L.A. Charger games!! Maybe 2" glass walls, ( like the Marine Room in LJ)... as opposed to a 12' tall, blinding wall of concrete?? Can't wait till the Yellows go off in I.B. again!! As much as I hate to waste fuel, I think I will launch from Mission Bay or Oceanside, and I live off the I-8. There was a lot of very experienced fishermen / boaters, having a lot of issues in the ramp area....
I know the Port district meant well! I would have NOT expected this cluster, until I used it a couple of weeks ago.... Thank God I had an experienced boat operator & someone that could back a boat and trailer ( thanks son)!! Good luck to everyone using the SD Ramp! Tight Lines

When I looked at the design I wondered about the opening into the basin and how would it work with the crowds in the summer. Apparently not too well.

At least there are launch ramps and free

I should take pics of the launch ramps we make with logs, rocks, shoveling, 4x4 used for mud soft sand, ect :D

Beach launch panga with no motor mounted. Roll panga down a few logs and repeat. On a very low tide it could take many repeats. Until in the water. Attach motor and go :appl:. Return and beach the panga. Take off the motor. Roll the panga up the logs back to storage :)

The new Shelter Island ramp is a dream come true. The old ramp you could only dock seven boats at the most. The new ramp holds over twenty boats easy. The parking lot is massive and now the new ramp gives you more area to back down and is smooth and new. The new ramp is a dream. Thank you San Diego.

The new ramp is as expected ... many love it, some hate it. That's life.
