What's the real reason for closing the lupe to fishing and Eco tours. So much of Mexico is a trashed out and polluted mess, why no concern over that.
I think there is a lot of resentment towards gringo's enjoying Mexico's resources without a meaningful contribution to its tourism industry. What they should do, IMO, is require that boats hire Mexican "guides" and that tourists spend time in ports.

The fishing closure says that bottle nose dolphin feed on mackerel and trevally so no fishing. Nothing about tuna or yellowtail.

Yes fish weighed 92lbs and was caught on the Shogun when Bruce was running it. Bruce would later say the guy got it on 25lb test I believe. I was fishing nearby at the time on the Excel...

Look at the head on that thing...

You have 2 stories mixed. World record is 92lb caught by a deckhand on the Q105 at lupe. Before that the world record was 87lb on the Shogun at Alijos. Angler Ron Fuji died the next day fishing albacore and never knew.

OK but that WR fish was caught at Guadalupe on Shogun and weighed 91.9lbs by KP on 25lb string. That's Bruce holding it up. I was fishing right next to them on the Excel at Guadalupe when it happened.

I was there when it happened and was in the wheelhouse when Bruce was relaying the story to us.

This is Fuji's 88.3lb fish at Alijos also on the Shogun with Bruce...

Bruce has said Fuji's fish was the same length as KP's fish but was spawned out and super skinny but still weighed 88.3lbs

I think 200miles? I think HB is a 190 miles and change so you have to keep the fish whole. Used to be before rsw when fish were popsicles that on trips to clipperton they couldn’t process and freeze your fish on board. Can’t do that in Mexican waters

Sport boats went in there and fed all those beautiful big tuna to those great whites totally distorting and damaging the ecosystem…Mexico doesnt need the few shekels from gringos…get out and stay out
Dude you don't have a clue...
It's the cartel's new staging port. They don't want tourist watching the operation.
  1. Columbian ships drop the cargo in the shipping lanes.
  2. Small craft pick them up.
  3. Stage it on the island
  4. Submarines bring it to the US.
this is the 100% correct answer...

That's a nice fish but I never mentioned Tom Lambert or posted a picture of him. I posted a pic of KP on the Shogun with Bruce Smith holding it up. It weighed 91.9lbs and was caught on 25lb string. You can google it as Bruce himself (Tunafvr) posted about it on this very site on thread titled "Cow Yellowtail" in 2010. Two different fish, two different anglers, both great fish caught at Guadalupe. BTW Bruce said the spring was the best time to target big yellow...

Did some spearfishing there back in the day. Quit going after a dive buddy was killed by a gw. It was a fantastic adventure with all the moon-like jagged reefs and big fish. Best aquarium-like area I have ever dove in!!
Yah Terry Maas and his crew dove a bunch there in the 80’s. Terry killed a 398 lb BFT there in 82. Wild!

A diver was eaten there then also. There definitely weren’t the shark numbers there like they are today, but obviously still some around.

There was a considerable BFT fishery there through the early 90’s. Interesting how things change.

I fished there once in the late 90’s and it was hot so we spent a couple hours jumping off the wheelhouse and swimming around one afternoon. Ha!! Can’t do that anymore.

Stop banging on Mexico, they can do what they wish with their resources. We are a "visitor" every time we go there.

Guadalupe was not all "respectable" fisherman going there and 100% observing the rules and regulations. We all know, other stuff would transpire there and maybe the Mexican Government simply wants to preserve their ecosystems as best they can.

On one hand I agree with you. On the other hand I have an emotional connection to be there.

That was al scnepperschoff that was killed there in the 70s,happened right in front of his young son, greatest bluewater hunter ever they say.I used to dive with big jim christansen and he relayed that story to me along with many others of native ab divers disappearing at the lupe.

    My guess
Someone in Mex has plans for future tourist access to Gudalupe thru expensive permits, only from a Mex port, and only on Mex based boats.
I bet Mex politicians are (as all should) simply working to bring home jobs and investments ((money!)) ..... with an environment cover story.
    Tight lines,

Never dove or fished there, unfortunately, but I believe Maas was launched from the water there by a GSW after noticing it was surging up last minute and wedging his gun in it’s mouth? One of those legendary stories.

I can’t recall the names, but that story is insane.

I recall a crazy story written by Kirk Kerconnell I believe. He was free diving with a buddy who experienced a shallow water blackout at about 80 feet and was sinking out fast. Kirk dove down hard to get to him but appeared he was not going to make it to him. Last second he decides to shoot the guy with his speargun to retrieve him. Was aiming at the thick thigh area of the unconscious diver but at the last second aimed instead at one of his elongated swim fins. It was a perfect shot, penetrated the swim fin, and Kirk was able to pull him to the surface where he was revived and survived. Decisions that get made in a split second.....to save someones life...

After following a recommendation from Rubberhook I learned where the ignore button was so I never have to hear from JTE again. Makes BD that much more enjoyable. Now King Pow will get the same treatment. That’ll make it so 100% of his posts that I have read will be nothing but flatulence.
