And we think cali is screwed up! I wonder if anyone who made this decision realize that people who enjoy nature, especially fisherman and divers, are some of the people most concerned with conservation of these amazing places.

They have cartels literally shooting .50 cals at planes and dropping grenades from drones but kicking out paying tourists and hurting local economies is a priority.

And please don’t start the “their country their rules” argument. I get it.

It's the cartel's new staging port. They don't want tourist watching the operation.
  1. Columbian ships drop the cargo in the shipping lanes.
  2. Small craft pick them up.
  3. Stage it on the island
  4. Submarines bring it to the US.

AFTCO is coming out with one,
That the opening just rolls up , with no zipper .

    Because?

Sport boats went in there and fed all those beautiful big tuna to those great whites totally distorting and damaging the ecosystem…Mexico doesnt need the few shekels from gringos…get out and stay out

The fishing closure says that bottle nose dolphin feed on mackerel and trevally so no fishing. Nothing about tuna or yellowtail.

With all of that cartel cash why would they? Mexico is owned and operated by the cartels from the ground up

Perhaps you intended that as sarcasm, but if not, where do you come up with this stuff. Only one place I can think you might be pulling it out of.

I’m thankful I experienced Guadalupe Island fishing when I could. The biggest tuna weighed in at 123lbs and escaped the ‘tax collector’ as the ever present GWS were distracted by dive boats chumming to attract them to the steel cages lowered with divers inside. I did get ‘rocked’ onetime fishing 100lb test and a live mackerel and it pinned me to the rail as it pulled against a fully set drag. After a short balls to the walls attempt to get out of it’s rocky home, all I was left with was some worn and frayed line and sore muscles from the bang bang short experience and a Guadalupe fish story to share here on BD!

I propose an earnest TOAST to all the memories of fish, sharks, nature, and fishermen whose paths crossed at Guadalupe Island.

"" We few, we happy few, remember the privilige of our visit to Guadalupe.... and hope to return.""
    Prost,

    And a thank-you >
THANK YOU Vagabond for my visit to Guadalupe and and my memories of you, your Professor/Captain Mike Lackey, and your GREAT crew....oh, and my 2 one-hundred pound plus YFTs!!!!

Sucks they’re closing it. My first time there was in the 80’s when the rooster was new and Danny Palm was the skipper. Most wide open yellowtail bite I’ve ever seen. One guy got a huge black seabass on the iron, about 250. In those days we’d keep a few. When they cleaned it it had 2 yellowtail in its gut. Food chain

I believe a world record yellowtail was caught at Guadalupe. Not sure if the record still stands but with the closure, the other home of record YT is the banks near Alijos rocks where my personal best was caught fishing deep.

Yes fish weighed 92lbs and was caught on the Shogun when Bruce was running it. Bruce would later say the guy got it on 25lb test I believe. I was fishing nearby at the time on the Excel...

Look at the head on that thing...

At the same time that fish was landed on the Shogun my buddy Travis got this 68lber on the Excel while pulling a belly hooked sardine backwards through the water on 40lb. I still laugh about that...

What's the real reason for closing the lupe to fishing and Eco tours. So much of Mexico is a trashed out and polluted mess, why no concern over that.
