As I got him up he jumped off the hook and flailed around on the rocks before I could grab him and take a quick (crappy) photo and release him. He swam away just fine.

I was fishing for spotties when I noticed something chasing bait I assumed mackerel and wasn't casting towards it at all when he bit. Quite a fun fight on 6# line! I was using a Kalin's 3" pumpkin seed/ grn flecks grub on 1/4 oz. jighead. A friend of mine has caught 2 this spring in the southbay this fish was north of the bridge!

I'm guessing there's quite a population of these fighters now!

No way! San Diego has bonefish? I didn't know that. Good fighters. If you just scale them and freeze them, then cut a slit at the tail when it thaws...you can get nice boneless burger meat from them. They're really tastey. Good for you. Hope you get more.

    Hi Bigus Fisus,

Most excellent. Nice size too. On plastics ......... yes ..... that would be worth going down to fish for them from here in Long Beach. I know some spots closer too but .... just the idea.

    thanks,

    tsurikichi

Bonefish are for catching, not eating. Any fish that fights that hard deserves to be released. And there's not a very big population of them locally, and if they were targeted for food they would soon disappear.
