I’m trying to work out a scenario that looks like this: moor the boat a couple months at a time at various marinas.

Ideally it would be at la push April thru May, Maybe come back to the sound June and July, then to Westport August and September, then back to my house on the trailer for the winter. Transient moorage is way too expensive when it exceeds a week so is this plan possible? Are there marinas in the sound that have availability and have reasonable month to month plans?

I think Westport has a month to month program and decent rates but all the marinas in the PS I know of either have no availability or no month to month. And I don’t want anything in lake union or lake Washington. I don’t really want to spend more than $300. Does anyone have any insight on this?

In the 90's i was paying $480 a month at harbor island marina. Finding month to month moorage in ps in the summer, i wish you good luck.
LaPush, call early and you should be able to get moorage, but probably more than $300 a month.
Westport, if its a good season, it can be interesting to get moorage too. Bad season no problem. Very likly you will be moored in the middle of the commercial boats. To avoid this, annual moorage is around $1800 yr i believe and that is cheap.
I would make some phone calls to the coast ports and find out pricing.

    Glw your hunt!

I mean no offense. It is 2019. That goal is off by a factor of 3 or 4.

    Your $300 I think.

The problem with hoping for transient space is younhave no guarantee there will be any space for you. If you can’t get transient, will you be willing to tow back and forth or will you forego the fishing? Two years ago, there was little chance of getting month to month at Westport.

Westport and la push are right in there on price. I expect puget sound rates to average more but I figured some of the smaller marinas might offer better rates I guess I just gotta look around.

I guess I better invest in a good trailer sooner than later but with the Grady gone it’s kind of nice having some driveway back.

This conversation sure makes me appreciate my area for moorage! I pay just under $900 a year.... Transient is tough to get here as well, several year waiting list to get in...

I pay $435 for a 36’ slip which inckudes a 10% discount for tear round, plus $15 a month in utilities.

31’ is going to be $350-500 a month and no one in the sound is going to give you a discount for the gravy months.

Best bet is to find a sublet from someone is cruising to Alaska or such

I am not sure if this is a fit but you might want to check it out for the PS piece of the puzzle. I have thought just having the private launch might be worth it sometimes.

I agree with @Cap'n Coldeye on the yacht club there. Having a near-by launch is almost worth it alone.

La Push sells out its monthly moorage well in advance. Westport used to do a 3-month summer only deal, but they stopped that a couple years ago.

Tyee Marina near Browns Point in Commemcement Bay always seems to have month-to-month availability. Also, there are a few that are pretty flexible down in Olympia; Swantown, One Tree Island, Fiddlehead and Boston Harbor come to mind. Maybe Zittel’s too, but they seems pretty spendy the last time I looked. Mostly covered, very few uncovered.

My dad keeps his boat at Tyee in the summer month to month. Pretty nice facility and not too expensive. 30’ slips are available. Not sure on their longer ones.

I talked to Mike at Big Salmon last year and he had some month to month or whole summer options. Maybe try Neah bay instead of Lapush. More fuel if you want to fish the same spots, but maybe it will save overall.

Thanks guys. I called on some of your suggestions. Tyee looks like a good option. Pretty reasonable prices and availability. Des Moines has a 1-2 year waiting list and wants $30 up front and $25/year just to be on the waiting list! Narrows doesn’t have availability at the moment. Got a lot more calling to do.

I think I’m gonna just throw down for a year in the sound and then just hit up wp and lp for the prime time months there. Unless I can work something flexible out with a local marina.

Leave the boat at WP and run it up to La Push when you want to go there short run. Then when you need to scratch that Puget Sound itch just come kidnap the Glas Ply and when I need a non charter ocean trip I’ll take your new one out. Even trade??
