WFC filed suit today to save the orcas. Here's the complaint:

    https://www.biologicaldiversity.org...dfs/Complaint-SKRW-Fisheries-April-3-2019.pdf

I noticed a few interesting factual assertions. The 75 whales apparently eat an estimated 25 salmon per day per whale. The yearly total is 684,375. Ocean harvest (I assume based on who was sued it only includes WA, OR, and CA) for 2018 was 250,000, plus 65,000 dead bycatch. Total chinook killed in 2018 was 315,000. The fisheries reduce Chinook abundance by 18-25 percent.

It's estimated that a 15 percent increase in Chinook, plus noise reducton, will save the whales. That sure sounds like no fishing to me.

What does that mean? Did you read the complaint? Are the harvest estimates wrong or what?

Wonder if they will go after the real problem.

"Polluted stormwater runoff is the number one source of toxic pollution to Puget Sound and surrounding waterways. Development in urban areas can cover as much as ninety percent of land with pavement. When it rains, the water doesn’t soak into the ground but runs over the surface, collecting anything deposited there and dumping it directly into our waterways. Studies have shown that the pollutants in stormwater runoff can kill coho salmon in as little as three hours, and although many solutions exist, implementation is often a struggle."

One can only imagine what comes out of downtown Seattle when it rains-nasty

My guess is no, they won't. This is a lot easier of a case to present because it is easily quantifiable. Science says whales need "x" number of fish. Feds are approving the killing of "y" number of fish, thereby "taking" the whales. Much easier to present and show the feds are violating ESA when the Feds' own numbers prove it.

Maybe we should tie the sale of salmon fishing licenses to the General Fund?

We would become the mobster's illegitimate kid who needs a job at the construction site.

A whale eats 25 salmon a day and somehow I’m the asshole?

I’m assuming that’s adult salmon? And apparently only chinook? Add that to the salmon sea lions and seals eat and how are we not in the negative?

We are the only society that coddles it’s whales yet we are the ones with a crisis. In Washington state you gotta assume the fetal position if a whale farts within 1000 yards of you yet my friend from Mexico just showed me a home video of a fleet of boats literally driving up onto the backs of whales to cop a feel. Somehow they didn’t die.

I don’t recommend the latter but perhaps a reasonable middle ground could be reached.

Just wait and see what the commie fleet lobbyists have to say about it. Good luck staying afloat after that keel-hauling, WFC!

They better be careful what tree they are barking up....
