Son and I launched SI at 7am, scoop of bait and off to N9. Spotted ONE paddy and saw some small dodo that did not want to play. Moved on search for paddies while heading down to 302. Saw another paddy and stopped and drifted a while then son hooked up to his first dodo but cut through line near the boat. Drove around 302 area looking for paddies and nothing. Joined the fleet surrounding 1 paddy where divers pretty much claimed it but they left a few mins after we got there and immediately saw dorado jumping all around. Of course me and several boats are drifting pass the paddy and nobody is bent while the dodos' kept leaping out of the water close enough spit at lol. All tight jawed! Took off to 226 for no paddies and headed towards 178 for no luck. No birds no paddies no fish.

Trailered down 2 hours when I could have just drove 45 mins to launch DP where the BF was in the ugly water. Thats what I get once again trying to fish during full moon. $400 plus for fuel and expenses. Good luck and I'd head north if launching from SI.

Yea it’s all part of paying dues.. it’s suck ! You still got out . Next time. You got to spend the day with your son and that’s priceless in my book.

When they have lock jaw, chunking sometimes gets them going.

I did the same as you and drove right past Dana point. I had a little more luck as we trolled all day and put on 4 dorado. One that was nice sized 15-20 lb fish plus one yellowfin. I was around the 43 then came back through 226. One dorado and the tuna came near the 226.

Chunking did not work either unfortunately. Weather was a bit foggy but manageable with no radar a little choppy at times in the morning.

I've been catching all the rat sized dorado you would want on lures just south of the N9 and one 25-30lb yellowfin on a dolphin school. Everyone drives right past it to catch generally the same sized dorado
